Snapchat's new Dress Up feature will make virtual online shopping possible. The app company confirmed this new AR enhancement during its annual Creator Summit event, which happened on Thursday, Apr. 28.
Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and other tech giants have been trying to achieve the perfect virtual online shopping experience. However, their versions are still limited.
Now, Snapchat wants to offer a more ambitious AR shopping feature that is different from the common shopping catalog of FB and other online platforms.
Snapchat Dress Up Feature
According to The Verge's latest report, the new Snapchat Dress Up feature offers an in-app hub that acts as a virtual shopping mall.
Once you visit the virtual shopping hub, you can use the app's AR lenses to take pictures of the available items. You can use the filters to see how the virtual versions of clothes and other products look on you.
"It's not just a product-feed shopping tab. Now, there's a really core utilitarian use case that we're also focused on driving," said Snapchat's AR Strategy and Product Marketing Head, Carolina Navas.
On the other hand, the Dress Up hub will also have a section for content creators, allowing influencers to share tips and ideas for fashion.
The application company has been working on this new AR shopping for around 18 months. This just shows that Snapchat is now embracing the in-app shopping trend.
Snapchat Further Improves
Tech Crunch reported that Snapchat is now growing faster compared to Twitter and Facebook. The company's efforts, such as the latest Dress Up hub, allows it to attract more users.
Of course, more consumers mean more revenues. The recent quarter's financial results revealed that Snapchat's earnings increased by more than 20%.
