No steering wheel Tesla Robotaxi will soon arrive. After confirming the new autonomous EV, Elon Musk also shared some things that consumers can expect from the new self-driving car.
If you are asking if the lack of a steering wheel will cause some issues, it won't. The U.S. regulators confirmed that steering wheels are no longer required.
But, only vehicles that have fully autonomous features can remove their steering wheels, as reported by Driving. Since Tesla has one of the best self-driving features, then it can already develop new EVs without steering wheels.
No Steering Wheel Tesla Robotaxi To Arrive!
According to Independent UK's latest report, Elon Musk plans to mass-produce the new Tesla Robotaxis around 2024. The billionaire stated that he would manufacture the new EVs without steering wheels in the Giga Texas.
He also shared other things that the new Tesla taxis can offer. Musk stated that these new autonomous vehicles would have no pedals as well, indicating that they will fully rely on the automaker's self-driving technology.
"There are a number of other innovations around it that I think is quite exciting, but it is fundamentally optimized to achieve the lowest fully considered cost per mile or kilometer when counting everything," explained Elon.
Now, what can the new steering wheel-less and pedal-less Tesla autonomous EVs offer?
What the New Tesla Robotaxis Can Offer
Musk said that just like existing public transportations (bus, taxis, etc.), the new steering wheel-less Tesla vehicles could also offer cheap rides.
It will be a major change from the current Tesla business, which focuses on passenger autonomous EVs.
Although this is the case, the new Tesla Robotaxis will still have the same self-driving feature that Model Y, Model X, Model 3, and Model S are using.
Elon Musk hasn't confirmed the exact launch date of the new Tesla autonomous taxis. But, some rumors claim that the automaker might debut these new steering wheel-less vehicles as early as 2023.
Recently, the Tesla Mobile Charger has been removed from the company's EV bundles.
Meanwhile, the Tesla Q1 sales experienced a whopping 81% increase.
