Nio's EV production suspension is now happening. The sudden manufacturing postponement of the giant Chinese electric carmaker happened as the citywide lockdown in Shanghai, China continues.
As of press time, China's largest city is still suffering from the increase in COVID-19 infection cases. Because of this, officials decided to implement stricter health protocols.
Now, various automakers, including Nio, are also affected by the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions in Shanghai.

The issue began when the recent COVID-19 surges forced Shanghai officials to conduct strict health protocols. Nio said, via its mobile app announcement, that its supplier partners were already affected by the COVID-19 measures ever since March.
The EV maker added that its partners in locations such as Jiangsu, and Jilin were already halting their operations.
"Due to the impact of this Nio has had to halt car production," added the Chinese automaker. While Nio's production postponement is just starting, Tesla Gigafactory Shanghai's suspension still continues.
However, the South China Morning Post reported that Shanghai officials are already planning to ease the citywide lockdown. Although this is the case, Nio and Tesla Giga Shanghai productions' resumption is still uncertain.
Nio Battery Swap Station To Expand in Europe, US
Although Nio's EV production is experiencing several issues, the Chinese EV developer is still making efforts to improve its business.
Electrek reported that Nio is now talking with other automakers so that its battery swap stations will be licensed, allowing them to expand in Europe and the United States.
Nio said that it plans to have more than 1,000 battery swap stations outside China by 2025. The EV maker wants these stations to focus on the U.S. and Europe.
But, before interested automakers take advantage of the Chinese EV developer's battery swap tech, they are still required to adopt the company's battery pack tech.
Meanwhile, Tesla Gigafactory Texas will soon start producing the popular Cybertruck.
On the other hand, some rumors claimed that the first Lexus EV Sports will be similar to Tesla Model S, having a yoke steering wheel.
