Tesla's camera-reliant autonomy removed Model Y and Model 3 units from Europe and the Middle East. The removal of radar sensors in Tesla EVs has been a long-time effort of the giant automaker.
The famous tech CEO Elon Musk recently explained that radar sensors are effective but somehow prevent the potential of Tesla's autonomy and FSD (Full Self-Driving) feature.
He added that if Tesla wants to achieve the perfect autonomous capability, it needs to make self-driving EVs act like their human drivers.
This means that Teslas needs camera sensors (acting as eyes) and an advanced software system (acting as the brain).

This move is a part of the new Tesla Vision effort, which aims to remove radar sensors from all the automaker's electric vehicles.
"Model 3 and Model Y are our higher volume vehicles. Transitioning them to Tesla Vision first allows us to analyze a large volume of real-world data in a short amount of time," said the EV maker via Inside EVs.
The ongoing Tesla Vision effort is quite different from the common market approach conducted by other automakers. As of the moment, other autonomous carmakers still use radar sensors to enhance their autopilot technologies.
Will Tesla Radar Removal Pose Issues?
Tesla Vision's official website announced that there would be some issues once radar sensors are removed from the company's electric cars.
The automaker said that some features would be inactive. These include the Tesla Autosteer. Those EV units that no longer have radar sensors will have the Autosteer feature limited to a maximum speed of 80 mph.
Although this is the case, the automaker clarified that the affected features would be restored after a week or two. If you want to see further details about the ongoing Tesla Vision effort, you can visit this link.
Meanwhile, Tesla Model 3 police cars finally arrived in Taiwan.
On the other hand, new Tesla OTA updates were recently released to solve the delayed rearview display issue in old Model S and Model X EVs.
