Tesla 'Ghost' Detection Glitch Can Harm Drivers! Here's Why It is Happening... And It's NOT Supernatural

Because of this, many viewers were creeped out since the screen of the viral Tesla shows people near the car.

But, when the driver pans its camera to the area where the detected individuals are supposed to be, there's no one there.

Although this is quite confusing, there's no supernatural reason behind the detection issue. But, this glitch can certainly lead to accidents.

Tesla Ghost Glitch Leads To Accidents?

According to ILF Science's latest report, the popular Tesla Ghost glitch is not caused by spirits in cemeteries. Instead, this display issue happens if the EV's camera sensors are faulty.

However, there are also instances when the 12 ultrasonic sensors of Tesla are just detecting flowers and other moving objects, confusing them to humans.

Experts said that if the Tesla autopilot has false positives, the EV will automatically break. This can either harm the driver or the passengers inside the vehicle.

But, EV enthusiasts said that false positive detection is better than false negatives. For example, falsely detecting a child crossing the road is way better compared to not detecting a real individual.

"False positives are really dangerous. A car that's slamming on the brakes unexpectedly is likely to get into wrecks," said Ed Olson, the founder of May Mobility, a self-driving shuttle company.

Can You Fix Tesla Ghost Glitch?

As of the moment, there's now an actual fix for the Tesla Ghost glitch. But, you can go to the nearest Tesla service center so staff can check your vehicles for faulty camera sensors.

On the other hand, you can also reboot your Tesla software autopilot. For Model X and Model S vehicles, Find My Electric reported that drivers need to do is press and hold both scroll wheels on their EV's steering wheel.

After that, wait for your car's touchscreen display to turn off. It will automatically refresh after a few seconds. If you want to see further details on how to reboot or restart your Tesla autopilot software, you can visit this link.

On Apr. 3, the Tesla Shanghai factory is still having some production issues because of the rising COVID-19 cases.

Previously, the Linn Creek police department's electric car fleet received some Tesla Model 3 units.
