The new Nintendo Switch update version 14.1.0 has just been released and comes with a notification for users urging them to earn more platinum points. Platinum points can be used by gamers in order to collect free digital rewards.
Nintendo Switch is Pushing Platinum Points Through a Notification System
According to the story by TechRadar, although there isn't much news regarding stability and performance improvements, the new update comes automatically whenever users open up a Switch game. Once downloaded, players will have access to a new system menu under "notifications" called "platinum point notification system."
The new update is in line with the Nintendo Switch Online missions, were similar to the Xbox Rewards; players will be able to complete certain challenges in order to get My Nintendo platinum points. Once these points are accumulated, they can, later on, be traded in for profile rewards.
Switch Platinum Points Can be Used to Buy Digital Items
The missions change every month and could also involve players having to try out a new game, backing up their data in the cloud, or basically just "using the Switch Online console app." To add, the platinum points collected by players can be used to buy digital items like character icons for ten platinum points or backgrounds and frames that cost five platinum points each.
As for the games, the selection for April brings in two titles, namely "Animal Crossing: New Horizons" and "Splatoon 2" as seen in a tweet by Nintendo. For "Splatoon 2," players will be able to claim a new player icon each week.
Nintendo Clarifies Players Won't Have to Make a Major Switch
Nintendo also clarified that players won't need to go way out of their way to claim the rewards but rather continue what they are doing. As per Nintendo, missions can be completed by simply "doing things you're probably already doing."
It is important to note that platinum points are different from gold points, which can be earned automatically when players buy games digitally or even register a cartridge they bought physically. These types of points can, later on, be used to help decrease the total amount of the player's next purchase on the company's eShop.

What Are Some Notable Prizes to Claim with Platinum Points?
The platinum points can be used on the website in order to get more rewards. Examples of the rewards include an Earthbound Beginnings notebook or N64 posters for 500 points or a "Pokemon Legends: Arceus" cable holder for 400 points.
The new Nintendo Switch version 14.1.0 also brings in folders which are called "groups" after five years of being requested from fans. Groups allow users to simply organize their games and software capable of handling up to 200 titles when going to the far right of the users' home menu and clicking on "All Software."
