Trump's Truth Social Considered A 'Disaster' By NYU Analyst

Former President Donald Trump's Truth Social is a "disaster," according to a recent analysis by the New York University's Center for Social Media and Politics.

In a report by the BBC, Trump's Truth Social has mostly failed to live up to its lofty expectations. Even an ally of the ex-president agrees that "nobody seems to know what's going on" when it comes to running the social media app, which was billed as Trump's attempt "to stand up to the tyranny of big tech."

This was the state of the app after it launched last February 21st. Back then, it was one of the Apple App Store's most downloaded, but the main problem was that it was almost unusable. Almost 1.5 million people on the app's waiting list couldn't even use the app where Trump was supposed to post his "truths" after being banned from Twitter and Facebook for life.

As a result, this put Trump's Truth Social outside the top 100 apps on the iPhone, as listed by the site SimilarWeb. It was still behind titans such as Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram, among others.

Among the biggest problems with the app, aside from its apparent unusability, is it is simply... empty. There's not enough content on it from even the biggest voices of America's right-wing movement, who have mostly stayed on the social media platforms that have banned Trump in the first place.

Trump Is 'Blowing A Gasket'

This was the bold statement of Vanity Fair when they wrote about how the former president himself reacted to the disastrous launch of his social media platform. They mentioned how even Trump himself hasn't posted on Truth as far as it is concerned, despite his reputation for being extremely active on Twitter back when he was allowed on it.

As a result, the app's download numbers have fallen off a cliff-by as much as 95% according to an analysis by Bloomberg, because users do not have any content to consume. Combine that with the app's purported server problems which are taking way too long to fix, and you have the perfect storm of a disaster.

Like Exploring A 'Ghost Town'

On the subject of Truth Social barely having any content, this was corroborated by Business Insider reporter Rosie Bradbury. She claims to have spent a week on the app, and noticed how a lot of prominent right-wing folks like Ben Shapiro and Tucker Carlson "were nowhere to be seen."

Aside from the lack of big names posting content, much of Truth's content also appeared to be auto-generated. Bradbury says that the app has been "overrun by bots," a truth which was further proven by how her Suggested Follows were "weird" and didn't contain a lot of original posts.

The usual Suggested profiles to follow were of course Donald Trump's, followed by Fox News' Sean Hannity. There was even a suggestion to follow the profile of acquitted shooter Kyle Rittenhouse, but that was the end of related suggestions. Bradbury mentioned that the next suggestions she got ranged from meme accounts to risque ones, and even the official account of NASA.

Perhaps the inevitable, complete downfall of Truth Social is only a matter of time.
