Amazon Finally Competes with Clubhouse: Instead of Rooms, Company's 'Amp' Allows Users to Create Radio Shows With Amazon Music

With the rise in popularity of Clubhouse, other companies like Twitter were quick to react and create their Clubhouse-competitor app. On the other hand, Amazon decided to take its time, and now, the company finally has its own Clubhouse competing app called Amp.

Amazon Finally Decides to Compete with Clubhouse with App Called 'Amp'

Unlike others, instead of trying to do exactly what Clubhouse is trying to do, Amazon decided to add more features. One of the most interesting features, as highlighted in the story by TechCrunch, is the ability for users to host their own live radio shows.

This feature allows users to act as a DJ by playing up their favorite hits from tens of millions of licensed songs under Apple Music. As of the moment, the app is only accessible for those with a code and is not yet available to the public.

Amazon Decides to Take a Different Approach Compared to Other Clubhouse-Competitors

As per the App Store description, users will be able to decide the show's title, create a playlist, and blast away with their very own radio show. An article by The Verge talked about the app when it was still in development, and the article called it "Project Mic."

Although Clubhouse broke the boundaries by creating a new format for live audio and social interactions, this particular approach has been spun out by various competitors. While other companies decided to focus more on what Clubhouse was already doing, Amazon decided to take a different path.

Amazon's Amp can Turn Users Into a DJ Through Access to Amazon Music

Instead of following what other companies did, Amazon's Amp provides access to the much wider Amazon Music catalog. This means that Amazon's Amp application gives users the ability to play the DJ, stream, and of course, chat about whatever they want.

One useful way the Amp application can be used is to talk about favorite creators, other artists, or even themselves with music in the background. What's more, with Amazon Music, users will be able to pull their favorite songs right away from the collection.

How Does Licensing Work with the New Amazon Amp App?

The Amp description notes that users will even be able to pre-plan or schedule their shows while controlling who gets to talk when live and more. As noted by TechCrunch's article, creators won't have to pay labels when trying to access the music for shows on Amp, as noted by the app's listing.

TechCrunch commented when it came to no longer needing to pay labels that "that's being covered, it seems." In order to use Amp, users can either create a new Amazon account or use their existing Amazon credentials as per the Amp website's sign-in page.
