Polkadot Founder Gavin Wood Donates $5 Million to Ukraine After Requesting for DOT Address

With more and more cryptocurrency donations being directed towards Ukraine, another multi-million donation has just popped up as the founder of Polkadot fulfills his promise. The founder requested that Ukraine provide a DOT address for the founder to send them donations, and once they did, he fulfilled the initial request.

Polkadot Founder Requested Ukraine to Provide Him a DOT Address

Recently, Polkadot's founder Gavin Wood announced that he would be donating $5 million should Ukraine open up a DOT address. Ukraine had only opened up a BTC, ETH, and USDT address during that moment.

After requesting for a DOT address to be added, Wood was met with criticism for his request to provide a DOT address. As pointed out, since he was the founder, commenters noted that he was only promoting his own crypto.

One Reason why Gavin Wood Requested for a DOT Address to Send the Donation

Others, however, pointed out that it was a wise thing to do due to the gas prices potentially taking a chunk of the pledged $5 million amount should Polkadot have to be converted to Ethereum before even being sent.

The announcement of the founder of Polkadot happened shortly after Binance's announcement wherein they stated that they would donate $10 million directly to the Ukrainian government for humanitarian aid.

Confirmation of Polkadot's Founder's Donation Tweeted Out

The request for Ukraine to post a DOT address was made after the country posted addresses for BTC, ETH, and USDT donations. Shortly after, Ukraine finally granted Wood's request and added a DOT address while stating that they were thankful for the support and the donations coming directly from the global crypto community.

Ukraine (official Twitter page) confirmed through tweet that they would be accepting more cryptocurrencies soon as the move by Polkadot's founder showed just how many want to donate in different types of cryptocurrencies. Wood then shared the transaction ID to show that he indeed fulfilled his promise and donated $5 million.

Other Potential Donations to Ukraine Should They Provide More Addresses

Gavin Wood wasn't the only cryptocurrency founder to request Ukraine to accept their currency, as Justin Sun, the founder of TRON, also did the same. To add, Sun requested that Ukraine post a TRX address so that he could contribute $1 million.

The tweet was also met with complaints, with some even comparing his donation to that of Polkadot's founder. One online user commented that the public generally knows that the founder has "loads of Ethereum" and only requested a TRX address to promote their own blockchain.

The CEO of VeChain, Sunny Lu, also announced that he would be donating a whopping $8 million should Ukraine open up a VET address saying that "nothing else matters comparing people's lives.
