The founder of Polkadot, Gavin Wood, announced that he would personally contribute a whopping $5 million should Ukraine open a DOT address. The donation is reportedly be half of what Binance promised.
Ukraine Officially Opens BTC, ETC, and USDT Addresses
Other addresses, however, have started popping up accepting different types of cryptocurrencies but they have yet to be verified. On Twitter, there were mentions of them being a "scam" and that donors have been warned that they should send their money directly to the offiical addresses.
With the financial economic situation in Ukraine under heat due to Russia, more and more crypto donations are popping up in support of the country. In addition, Ukraine publicly posted its crypto addresses in order to receive donations in BTC, ETH, and even USDT.
To confirm the address, a comment on the thread verified them by sharing a tweet that the Ukrainian minister released sharing the same address.
Polkadot Founder Gavin Wood Announced Potential $5 Million Crypto Donation
The founder of a different cryptocurrency, Gavin Wood, announced that he would be donating $5 million worth of crypto should the country accept his cryptocurrency.
However, his announcement was criticized with certain individuals noting that the founder only wanted to promote the crypto. Other commentors stated that, due to Gavin being the founder of Polkadot, opening up a DOT address would allow Gavin and his followers to donate with their currency of choice.
Alternate Addresses Given but Commenters Call It a 'Scam'
Another suggestion was for Wood to donate in ETH but, as explained by others in the thread, this would only incur more fees. To explain, when one crypto is converted into another, it will incur fees. This means that the initial $5 million which was alloted for donations would then be reduced.
According to another tweet by Subsocial, however, different crypto addresses were given including DOT, ACA, KSM, ASTR, KAR, PHA, SDN, QTZ, KILT, AIR, XOR, TEER, and PCX. A comment within the thread, however, announced that the addresses were a "scam."
The authenticity of Subsocial's donation addresses, however, have not yet been verified as of press time. Others within the thread advised that donations should be sent directly towards the addresses posted by the Ukrainian government.
Binance Donated $10 Million to Ukraine
Binance has just announced that they would be donating $10 million USD towards Ukraine in hopes of assisting when it came to humanitarian aid.
Should Ukraine decide to either open up a Polkadot address or should Wood decide to donate in another cryptocurrency, his donation would then be half that of one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world.
As of writing, no resolution has been released and no update has been given as to whether a Polkadot address will be opened or if Gavin decides to donate in another cryptocurrency.
