The CW and DC are branching out again, but this time they are not making moves in the area of live action, but animation. The new series will be based on the life and adventures of the DC character, Vixen, and it will be set in the same universe as Arrow and The Flash.
From what we've come to understand, the new animated series is destined for CW Seed, which is The CW's digital only studio. We don't have much to tell other than the whole thing could debut in Fall 2015. This is indeed big news, and a surprise since the show is set in DC's shared universe.
Many fans are not happy about this as they would have rather a live action version of Vixen. We agree with the fans, but we also want to give DC and The CW the benefit of the doubt here just to see where this goes in the short term.
Who is Vixen?
Vixen is a hero and a minor member of The Justice League. She uses her Tantu Totem to summon the abilities of several animals, and this makes her a huge threat to foes. Her real name is Mari McCabe, a woman who originates from Africa, hence the reason why she has a Tantu Totem.
Her mother and father were both killed due to greed and corruption, and thus one of the main reasons why Vixen chose the life to stop crime at any cost. Without the Tantu Totem, Mari is still a competent fighter, so taking her down completely would be a difficult task.
For now, we have no information regarding the storyline, though we do know The Flash and Arrow will make appearances. Whether or not they will play a huge role is still left to be seen.
Furthermore, we have to wonder if the lead actors will voice their animated selves. In addition, will Vixen be mentioned in the live action TV shows, paving the way for her to make a big live appearance in the future to come?
We doubt she would ever get her own live show, but seeing her would be good enough for most fans.
