'Arrow' and 'The Flash' Spinoff Series in the Planning Stages: A.T.O.M is Likely Candidate

With the success stories of Arrow and The Flash, we knew it wouldn't take long before The CW begins to look into the possibility of another DC TV show on its network that is set in the same universe. From what we've come to understand, this spinoff could turn out to be The A.T.O.M.

During the 2015 Winter TCA Press Tour on Sunday, Jan. 11, The CW held a question and answer panel, and as expected, several great questions were thrown at the team. The big question was whether the team has been looking into another spinoff, and the answer is as clear as day.

According to Greg Berlanti, the main man behind Arrow and The Flash, the team is in early talks at the moment, so nothing is set in stone. From all indications, however, it appears as if this spinoff series will headline the A.T.O.M.

Ever since Brandon Routh chose to be part of Arrow as the character Ray Palmer, popularily known as the A.T.O.M, we had a feeling he would gain a much larger role should viewers enjoy him on display. We doubt Routh would have agreed to a deal of being just a supporting character, which is the main reason we believe he will get his own show.

To make things even more interesting, Routh himself stated that he was hesitant in returning to the world of DC after the failure that was Superman Returns.

"When [the Arrow role] was proposed, I was hesitant to step into DC world again," Routh admitted. "I never thought it would happen and that I would play, in my mind, a pivotal character. It's been nothing but an amazing experience."

Because he was hesitant, we believe DC and The CW drew him in with the possibility of him having his own show, and clearly, it worked.

Mark Pedowitz, president of The CW, stated that any spinoff would have to be good enough to stand on its own legs. The lore of this character would also have to be good enough to sustain viewers for an hour.

Should they go ahead with the plans, chances are, we won't see The A.T.O.M starring Brandon Routh in his own show until the end of 2015, or early 2016.
