Windows 11 will roll out a new widgets button. It will be located at the taskbar, and it can open a menu with quick access to different categories, such as traffic, news, sports, weather, and more.

Windows 11 Widgets Access

A widget is a small graphical app that is made for fast access to information, including the news and weather. Widgets are usually presented separately from regular apps in an operating system, according to Tom's Hardware.

The icons usually stay running in the background while you do other tasks, so they can be viewed quickly without having to wait for it to load.

In Windows 11, widgets work differently, and they live in a special menu that is accessible from the taskbar.

To access the widgets menu, click on the widgets button on the taskbar. It is a blue rectangle with rounded white and cyan rectangles inside it.

After clicking the taskbar button, the menu will show up. You will then see numerous widgets on display by default, and you will see stocks, weather, sports scores, traffic, or photos, as per Window's Central.

You can also search through the dedicated field on the top-most part of the taskbar, by using the Bing web search in the Edge browser. Below the widgets, you will see a section that is solely for Bing News, and you can't disable it.

List of Widgets that are Currently Available in Windows 11

The first thing that you will see is the weather, which will show the current weather conditions, as well as announce that day's forecast. There is also a watchlist, which is a list of current stock values. You can also add ticker symbols, so you can customize the list.

The calendar is also available. It is a small calendar that shows the day and week outlook, together with upcoming events.

The To-Do list is a tool where you can add items and check them off as soon as you have completed them, according to How to Geek. You can also see photos, which displays the photos linked to your Microsoft account. The Tips widget shows tips that can help you use your Windows 11 software and Microsoft apps better.

The Sports widget shows the current sports scores, and it lets you enter a team name to customize it. You can also see Traffic that shows a small overhead map with traffic conditions in your area.

The Entertainment widget will show a list of the releases connected to movies or TV shows that you bought in the Microsoft Store. Then, there is the Esports widget that lets you see the latest scores on eSports.

Microsoft might remove some of the widgets and add more before the Windows 11 is released in August. The third-party widgets could still be available, but Microsoft has not given any details about how those might work.

Configuring the Widgets Menu

To add a widget to the menu in Windows 11, you can click on your profile avatar in the upper-right corner of the widgets menu, or you can scroll down and click the Add Widgets button.

You will see the Widget Settings window and it will allow you to add widgets to the menu. However, it won't allow you to remove them.
