The Nintendo Switch has recently been updated to software version 12.1.0, but this is not a massive update for the console, rather focusing more on its functionality and gamers' convenience. Updates on the console of Nintendo are not that big of a deal in normal times, but this particular one would help in creating a better experience for gaming.
The Japanese game company has one of the most popular consoles, amidst this time of new additions like the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X, which both have stock issues as of the moment.
Nintendo Switch's July Update
According to Nintendo Support's update 12.1.0, the company would focus on bringing convenience to gamers, without the need to worry about the failure to carry out a software update for their preferred game. Before this, there would be alerts if a game needs an update but would be unable to do so if the internal or external storage is full.
Players would need to exit the game and delete additional storage on their own, before returning to the game and having it be updated by Nintendo via the internet. This would be a hassle, and it would not tell the user how much data they need to delete or remove from the device before they can proceed to have the game be updated.
Nintendo Switch Game Update Settings
Now, the update would launch on the specific game, and if the storage is not enough, the console's operating system would prompt users to the settings and help them with what game or data can be deleted. That being said, users would have a chance to view which data or game takes massive space, and decide the appropriate ones to be removed.
12.1.0's patch notes can be viewed below:
Added the following system functionality:
- If there is not enough space remaining on the system memory (internal storage) or microSD card when downloading game software update data, you can now delete old data for that software, enabling you to download the new data.
- When deleting the old data, you won't be able to play the game until the new data has finished downloading.
General system stability improvements have been made to enhance the user's experience.
Game Update Convenience in Nintendo Switch
The game update convenience is available on all consoles of the Nintendo Switch, from the classic to the Lite devices. This update would greatly match the upcoming games that were announced in E3 2021, which has promised new titles to arrive for the console.
