Amazon construction put to a halt as the company announces that it is now reevaluating partnership with the contractors it is working on at a Connecticut construction project after finding eight nooses on Wednesday. The nooses left in several different locations around the Amazon facility somewhere under construction in Connecticut have now finally brought the project to a pause for the second time ever.
Amazon Construction Put to a Halt
According to the story by CNet, after closing the facility some time last week to let the law enforcement investigate the official discovery of seven nooses, Amazon decided to reopen it on Wednesday, only to find yet another eighth noose, according to a number of sources like The Washington Post.
The company had officially closed its site yet again on Wednesday evening as the official investigation was to continue. Amazon has certain security cameras located around entrances and even the different floors of the partially constructed facility.
Amazon Offers $100,000 Reward
It was also noted that the company is contributing a $100,000 reward for certain information that can help bring light about the incident. The FBI is now joining both the state and local police in investigating the official matter. The NAACP, however, is also in contact with the law enforcement and Amazon, according to Hartford Courant.
Kelly Nantel, a certain Amazon spokesperson said that the company does not tolerate hate, discrimination, or even racism. The spokesperson notes that they are assessing the performance and the management of their developer and general contractor for them to be able to ensure that they are maintaining the official standard that is expected of an Amazon project.
Amazon Facing Six Lawsuits
Nantel stated that they will be making any appropriate changes to this particular project. This would include reevaluating their partnerships which would ensure reaching high standards. Amazon is now facing at least six different lawsuits from different women alleging discrimination within the company.
The lawsuit includes corporate employees, women working in Amazon's delivery operations, and even the HR workers. The Washington Post notes that the construction industry is known to disproportionately employ white men all across the United States for certain jobs which include carpenters, laborers, and electricians.
Amazon Finds Eight Nooses
The eight noose was reportedly found somewhere amid a bundle of different electrical cables and was also reportedly described by the official Windsor Police Department as some sort of short red rope with a noose that was tied on one end. The nooses were representations according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.
As of the moment, the investigation is still ongoing and confirmation as to the individuals responsible for the nooses have not yet been released. The individuals behind the eight nooses have not yet been found as of the moment.
Amazon is now dealing with the situation with extreme caution as they are still finding out the whole scoop behind that were left on the construction site and what was the real story behind them.
