Amazon just listed a new gaming laptop from ASUS, and it's a very beastly one. The ASUS TUF Gaming F17 laptop just appeared on Amazon Italy with a EUR €1799 (around USD $1800) price tag, which puts it a little below the more expensive laptops of the similar caliber in the $2000 range, reports WCCFTech.
The laptop actually features great specs which, considering the current state of the GPU market right now, can make it a better alternative to building a full-fledged gaming PC. For one, it has an NVIDIA RTX 3060 GPU (the mobile version, that is), which is a slightly cut-down version of the full fat desktop RTX 3060.
Aside from that, the ASUS laptop is also shown to feature an 11th Gen Intel Core i7-11800H, codenamed "Tiger Lake H". It sports a 2. GHz base clock and a boost of up to 4.6 GHz all core, with 8 cores and 16 threads of raw processing power, according to Videocardz.com. If so, then it continues Intel's 11th gen "tradition" of sticking to 8 cores in the high end instead of trying to match AMD's high core-count parts.
Lastly, the laptop is also rumored to have 16 GB of DDR4 that can be upgraded to 32 GB, a fast 1 TB SSD (which is likely an NVME M.2), and support for WiFi 6E, USB 3.0, Bluetooth 5.2, and a single HDMI port. No one knows what HDMI version it comes with, however.
Buttery Smooth Gaming On The Go
The 8 cores and 16 threads of CPU power with an RTX 3060 and 16 GB of DDR4 is a really good spec sheet for gaming these days. Not to mention the SSD on the ASUS laptop will further add to the overall snappiness of the system, which would be a godsend to gamers on the go.
But exactly how powerful are these specs? Here's the short version. The 11th gen i7 in the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 will be more than enough even for the current generation's most demanding games. Not to mention the mobile RTX 3060 in it, which while a least-powerful version of its desktop counterpart, is still a pretty beefy card according to TechPowerup.
The 3060 in the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 will be able to play all the latest games in at least full HD 1080p at the highest graphical settings, with its 6GB of GDDR6 VRAM and a boost clock of 1425 MHz. Not to mention, you'll be enjoying all that ray tracing goodness in supported games with 30 RT cores and NVIDIA's amazing Deep-Learning Supersampling (DLSS) tech.
A Good-Enough Alternative During GPU Hell?
Nobody can build a gaming PC these days without having to spend too much money. So perhaps the upcoming RTX 3060-powered ASUS laptop, or anything similar like the Dell G15 would be good enough alternatives for gamers who just want something to play with now. A gaming laptop can be just as good as a next-gen console or a full-tower PC, provided it has the specs to match.
Maybe you can just opt for the current-gen consoles: the Xbox Series X or the Playstation 5. Though you likely still wouldn't find those at close to MSRP either, because even Microsoft and Sony are victims of the current global chip shortage which is hampering the production of these consoles.
All that people can do now is hope that the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 will have enough stock to tide PC gamers over until they're able to build custom systems again.
