Nvidia officially launched a free update that reduces system latency, enabling competitive gamers to get to enemies faster and take shots with superb precision.

Called the Nvidia Reflex, the game-changing update reduces click-to-display latency by up to 50 percent, which could greatly improve a player's competitiveness.

The GPU tech giant made the announcement on Tuesday, Apr. 6, and was made available on the live version of "Overwatch."

NVIDIA Reflex: 'Overwatch' Demo Illustrates How Latency Greatly Affects the Game

On Tuesday, Apr. 6, The Verge explains that the Nvidia Reflex is focused on reducing the latency happening within the computer hardware.

Reducing the delay between clicking the mouse and the game's visible reaction could give the player a better chance to respond to whatever is happening in the game.

Nvidia's video demonstration shows an "Overwatch" player trying out different moves in the game and how the player missed the target with Reflex turned off and getting a critical hit once the feature is turned on.

The reduced system latency showed on Nvidia's demo might only be noticeable to a professional gamer, whose microsecond difference could change the output of the game.

The results may vary depending on which GPU the player uses when running the Nvidia Reflex, as less-powerful GPUs could get smaller boosts than the later GPU models.

"With popular mid-range cards, like the GeForce GTX 1660 Super, gamers can expect up to a 33% improvement in PC responsiveness with Reflex," Nvidia wrote in its September 2020 blog.

NVIDIA Reflex Compatibility Guide: How to Turn the Latency - Reducing Feature On

According to an article from Engadget published on Tuesday, Apr. 6, the Nvidia Reflex could be activated on a GeForce GTX 900 series or later graphics card and with the latest Game Ready driver installed.

For "Overwatch" players, the newest game update must be installed along with Nvidia's drivers, before heading into the game options to enable the NVIDIA Reflex setting.

Nvidia also published a guide in October 2020, which teaches players how to reduce system lag further.

While the video demonstration featured "Overwatch," the NVIDIA Reflex was tested and proven compatible with 14 other games, including "Fortnite" and the "Call of Duty" franchise.

Nvidia also released a list of monitors and mice compatible with Reflex, including the Nvidia 360Hz G-SYNC display that was made with e-sports enthusiasts in mind.

Players using Reflex with the GeForce RTX 3080 and a 360Hz G-SYNC esports display could experience the lowest system latency possible.

Players using the 360Hz G-SYNC display would be able to use the system latency measurement tool called the Nvidia Reflex Latency Analyzer.

The exclusive add-on feature detects clicks coming from the player's mouse and then measures the time it takes for the resulting pixels to change on the screen.
