According to the game's developer Dotemu via Twitter (@Dotemu), the game is already in development and it seems that the developers are near to release the title in the coming months of this year. There have been no leaks nor news of the game, which is why this release is a surprise for all fans of the original gaming franchise.
Moreover, what is most notable about this release is that it features the retro feels of the old "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" games that were initially released by the studio. The game's aesthetics have brought out the kid among most fans, particularly those who lived and grew up to the major franchise of "TMNT" from its movies, to television series.
The game is co-developed by Tribute Games, and it is under the direction of the owners of the rights to the four Turtles (Leonardo, Michaelangelo, Raphael, and Donatello), Nickelodeon. Dotemu is famous for its popular arcade and beat-em-up games like the "Metal Slug" franchise, "Streets of Rage," "Little Big Adventure," and more.

The game's listing on Steam only says coming soon, but judging from the company's teaser on Twitter, the game is nearing its completion and would be releasing anytime this year for various platforms. Notably, the game is also speculated to be included in the popular hybrid gaming console, Nintendo Switch, where beat-em-up titles are also popular.
The game also features the old-school villains of the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle" franchise, the mutated warthog and rhinoceros, Bebop and Rocky, who are known lackeys of the Foot Clan. These villains are popular for being long-time and recurring adversaries in the comics. The latest game would bring iconic characters back including Master Splinter and April O'Neil.
