Rumors resurfaced that Japanese entertainment company Konami has been coordinating with an unknown developer for the creation of three games which include Silent Hill, Castlevania, and Metal Gear. Although there is no evidence yet that the claims could be valid, how persevered is Konami to push through the outsourcing?
Is Konami Looking for the New Game Developers?
The news about Konami's connection to the three games has flashed on the internet many times in the past years. We never know if a meme about it could mean a thing or two: a truth or bluff.
According to a report by Metro, the Polish video game developer Bloober Team hinted that they are currently working on the horror game series, while some reports said that "The Medium" creator is now collaborating with another publisher. The Poland-based company, however, pointed out that they are making some progress about a horror IP through a 'well-known gaming publisher,' which will make fans ponder the anonymous team.
Fans speculated that the unnamed game could be Capcom's "Resident Evil" yet the company was already in agreement with the Western developers. In the same report, EA's "Dead Space" could also be a candidate for the rumor, but the company has not shown any interest in developing a fresh horror game.
Furthermore, Sega's "Condemned" and Nintendo's "Project Zero" or "Eternal Darkness" was also mixed up in the rumors but there is only one game that Bloober Team continuously mums: "Silent Hill."
The survival horror video game was released in 1999 by Konami, and it was one of the biggest inspirations of "The Medium" game. What made it the closest answer to the rumor is its Japanese composer Akira Yamaoka, who worked previously on "Silent Hill" before finishing his masterpiece soundtrack in "The Medium."
"In fact, we've been working for more than a year on another gaming project, another horror IP, and we're doing this with a very famous gaming publisher. I can't tell you who. I can't tell you what the project is, but I'm pretty sure when people realize we're working on it, they will be very excited," Piotr Babieno of Bloober Team answered in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz.
Given the circumstances, "Silent Hill" stood to be the most conspicuous option among all horror game series, however another source VGC said that Konami has already outsourced the game to a 'prominent Japanese developer.' The question mark still lies as to who is the mysterious developer that Konami has dealt with.
Previously, the two "Silent Hill" games were linked to Hideo Kojima, Konami's game designer until 2015. Since then, Kojima said that he was not negotiating with Konami.
VGC reported that Konami has refused to accept the offer of Supermassive Games, a British game developer who is currently collaborating with Bandai for "The Dark Pictures Anthology."
What Will Happen to 'Castlevania' and 'Metal Gear'?
The two games have crashed after their commercial failure. Konami has to rethink outsourcing them but if they will undergo a great development, it will be a redemption for "Metal Gear" and "Castlevania." Although it could happen, it would take some years as new games would pile up to meet the gamers' demands.
