These include embedding Wi-Fi antennas in screens and a battery that doubles as a haptic feedback engine. Right now, Apple is developing another technology that could add security features to an iPhone and Apple Watch display.

Right now, Apple is testing Photodetectors Integrated into Thin-Film Transistor Backplanes. This tech is concerned with a TFT screen. Apple explained that this technology can still include sensors that detect a range of environments even if a display presents images.

"An array of photodetectors may be variously configured as a biometric sensor, camera, or depth sensor, for example," said Apple via Apple Insider.

The company added that it may be used to generate a depth map, an image, or a video clip.

What Apple is trying to do

Right now, Apple is working on getting more from the sensors it is currently testing. They are trying less expensive and thinner ones.

"Given the wide range of sensor applications, any new development in the configuration or operation of a system including a sensor can be useful," added Apple.

As of the moment, Apple is suggesting either embed photodetectors within a TFT screen or alongside one. The company explained that these sensors can either be placed behind the gadget's screen or be attached to the device's display.

However, the tech giant manufacturer also stated that this could make an iPhone or other Apple product thicker than usual. Once Apple completes this technology, it can use it as either an under-the-screen Touch ID or Face ID feature.

Another Apple innovation

GSM Arena reported that the iPhone giant manufacturer is also working with LG to develop a foldable display that could be used in the upcoming foldable iPhone. Rumors the division at LG, which is responsible for the development and manufacturing of display panels, is currently working with Apple.
