BMW: Track-Ready 'John Cooper Works' Mini Will be Fully Electric—GP Version Now Under Production!

BMW revealed that there would be a new fully-electric MINI that is now under production. It will be under the "JCW" or John Cooper Works platform which designated the hot hatch line-up to be track-ready and insanely fast. Initial rumors thought the Fully Electric MINI will carry the "GP" badge version, but would instead be named after the original MINI vehicles' first tuner'.

The German luxury vehicle manufacturer, BMW, recently unveiled a fully-electric venture of its subsidiary company that would most likely be available the following years, It will feature a track-ready platform for its electric motor. The transition to a fully electric MINI was revealed before, but this is the first where a JCW version surfaces.

BMW: Electric MINI Will Bear the John Cooper Works Tuned Version

The popular British hatchback manufacturer, MINI, is now tapping into vehicles' fully electric capabilities with the latest announcement of the "John Cooper Works" or JCW MINI that would take on its first fully-electric design. The famous hatch transitions to an EV with the capabilities of burning rubber on the track.

According to BMW's Press Release, the MINI brand is now committed to its brand's electric mobility, transitioning to fully electric cars that offer new features, experiences, and enjoyment. The JCW platform for MINI vehicles would feature an electric drive variant and an internal combustion engine (ICE).

The company regarded that its previous transition to electric car technology gave MINI a new platform to enforce its signature drive and experience. The new opportunities opened up by the previous fully-electric MINIs paved the way for the possibility of a tuned version of the EV with the John Cooper Works modification.

Electric MINI John Cooper Works: Previous EVs Have Poor Miles, Will This Change?

According to Electrek, people have frowned upon the Electric MINI's latest release that has a poor range of 110 miles only, on a single charge. The battery's capacity is only half of the popular electric vehicles, including Tesla's Model Y, the smallest EV in the platform, 303 miles on its cells.

BMW's hold over the popular British car company would mean that the German automaker will have a say and decisions over MINI. Still, it is in BMW's hands to decide over the electric MINI's fate, whether it would feature upgrades for its latest version that contains only a 32kWh battery pack.

The press release did not mention any changes to the MINI EV or whether the BMW group would even tweak the car's current state before handing it over to John Cooper Works.

The electric MINI JCW's prototype was brought to the popular German track, Nurburgring, to test its capabilities and performance on a race circuit. The twin brother GP version of the John Cooper Works MINI that has the combustion engine clocked eight minutes on its lap time.

While the goal is to go near or even be faster than its ICE equivalent, the fully-electric John Cooper Works MINI prototype lap time was not yet revealed by BMW.
