[BREAKING] Taliban Kills 27 in Zabul, Afghanistan and Steals Weapons and Ammo One Month After Peace Deal With United States

In a recent turn of events, the Taliban has just attacked and killed at least 27 security personnel located inside a military base in Afghanistan on Thursday, Mar. 20. This, by far, is one of the biggest acts of violence since the Taliban has signed the violence reduction agreement between the United States just last month.

The Afghanistan government identify the attackers as Taliban

According to the Afghan government, the Taliban were behind the attack despite recently signing a peace deal with the United States just last month in exchange for an eventual pullout of all foreign forces from Afghanistan. The agreement was made for an exchange of reduced violence made by the rampant militant groups.

What were the other inclusions of the agreement?

Part of the agreement included the Taliban's part to begin talks with the current delegation of Afghan leaders in order for peace to be sustained in the country. The process though, was not successful because of disagreement regarding the release of prisoners.

The Taliban's attack

The armed Taliban fighters suddenly stormed a joint military base occupied by the Afghan National Defense Forces located in Zabul, which a southern province of Afghanistan. The attack happened on Thursday, according to one respected member of the provincial council who goes by the name of Haji Atta Jan Haqbayan.

The clash did not end on Thursday but instead continued until the early hours of Friday, Mar. 21, leaving 27 dead from the Afghan forces. According to Haqbayan, the Taliban left right after the attack securing weapons and ammunition upon making their escape. The Taliban refused to comment and stayed silent since.

The Taliban's need for weapons and ammunition

The Taliban functions just like an army with the need for weapons and ammunition, but the methods in which they acquire these weapons are unconventional and may even be through illegal means. Most of them are through raids and etc.

Zabul speaks up

According to a Zabul's provincial governor spokesperson, "The attack happened with the help of infiltrators," which was a call for further investigation as to what really happened. The specifics as to what was meant by the spokesperson were soon clarified by the Afghan defense ministry.

The Afghan defense ministry expounded this idea by saying that the infiltrators within the Afghan forces were the ones who helped carry out the attack! The investigation is already being deployed, and the necessary resources are being used to find out the truth behind this attack.

The government decides to take action

According to the defense ministry, the death toll is at 17. The government has decided to order its forces to switch to an "active defense posture" as a precautionary measure in response to these attacks by the Taliban.

The spokesman for the Afghan president has spoken on Twitter

According to a Tweet by the spokesman for the Afghan president who goes by the name of Sediq Sediqqi, "This heinous act of the Taliban is a clear example of their commitment for continued violence and against the Afghan peace process," clarifying that the Taliban's objectives have not yet changed despite the signing of the peace deal with the United States a month ago.
