Reggie Fils-Aime: Why Nintendo's President Jumps Ships from Nintendo to GameStop's Board of Directors

It is only rare that a president step down from their position at the company that made them great but Reggie Fils-Aime, the recent Nintendo of America president has just recently stepped down from his presidential position last February 2019 with his eyes set on retiring after even more than a decade of hard work. The relaxation period has seem to come to an end as Fil-Aime suddently decided to step up once again and join GameStop's board of directors right now when the gaming retail chain could really use some help in surviving the challenges of the evolving industry!

GameStop is in dire need of help

Although GameStop seems to have undergone big changes while the value of their stock continues to deteriorate, it is well noted that if the right changes aren't made, the company might not last longer. The best move they have come to terms with was by retailing and selling products which include Funko Pop toys as well as geek-related apparel but this might not be enough to save the company from plummeting stock.

The company has also reported to be cutting on mid-level managers and employees just to save the company because of the alarming financial situation that they are in. Fils-Aime may be the savior needed by GameStop to turn their company's situation around. According to Fils-Aime, the gaming industry still needs GameStop and refuses to think that GameStop is irrelevant in today's videogame industry.

GameStop is joined by two other professionals with the hopes of saving the industry

Fils-Aime is joined by two other big names in the world of detail, William Simon and James Symancyk who has experience as the CEO of Walmart and the Current CEO of PetSmart respectively. The two were brought in along with Fils-Aime to try to save the industry from collapsing with a huge battle against one enemy who cannot be easily beaten, technology! April 20 will be the official date that Fils-Aime will be part of the company and as he steps up, former board members Dan Dematteo, Gerald Szczepanski, Larry Zilavy, and also Steve Koonin are said to step down and be replaced.

These changes are drastic but seem necessary

With the gaming innovations under Fils-Aime's belt like the Wii, Nintedo 3DS, and now the most popular, Nintendo Switch! It seems like GameStop is under good hands as this innovative leader was behind most of Nintendo's successful products. It is still hard to pinpoint what types of contributions we can be expecting from Reggie's decision to join GameStop but we might say that this evolution might change the entire business platform.

Nintendo's former president Reggie Fils-Aime could be the key to GameStops's survival!
