The Witcher is just a week away and we can't wait to see Netflix's adaptation of The Continent, alongside it's never-ending political turmoil and monstrous denizens waiting in every forest, swamp, and river. Seeing the success of Game of Thrones, it's no wonder the top brass at Netflix want their own fantasy drama, complete with massive armies, Machiavellian backstabbing, surprise twists, and memorable heroes. And they've made an excellent choice in choosing to adapt The Witcher, as it shows that people are hungry for more (and with how Game of Thrones Season 8 ended, we'd also like to think that people want something new).
But before we get to see the whole season 1 on Dec. 20 (As usual, All Netflix-created series drop the whole season in one go), we'll have to make do with the various trailers and teasers they've released ever since. Luckily, they've released another one.
Dubbed "The Final Trailer", we finally get to see all the key players in the story. Henry Cavilll, Freya Allan, and Anya Chalotra play the titular Witcher Geralt of Rivia, Princess Ciri, and Yennefer of Vengerberg respectively. And we'd have to say that the casting has been on point.
Massive Battles Ahead
The trailer also shows off one of the banes of our protagonists: The army of Nilfgard. Clad in black and gold, the army looks as menacing as their book and video game counterparts. We even get to see a shot of their sword and armor, which look very distinct compared to the ones worn by Geralt and the rest of the Northern Kingdoms.
This is also our first glimpse into the massive army-on-army battles. We can finally see that Netflix indeed hasn't skimped on these scenes. With the short teases that we've seen, they're as epic as expected. Hopefully, they match up to the large-scale battles that were seen in Game of Thrones. It might even be possible that a certain battle would become memorable. Still, the bar has been set pretty high thanks to Lord of the Rings (ask anyone who's watched the trilogy, and they'll probably tell you that they remember the Siege of Minas Tirith).
An introduction to our cast
Netflix also dropped three-character introduction clips earlier this week.
The first one focuses on Geralt. And there's no accurate way to describe Witchers are than what the trailer says: "White hair. Loner. Two very, very scary-looking swords". The clip goes into more depth into what Witchers are and how the people see Geralt of The Continent.
Princess Ciri is a girl born into royalty but also born into prophecy. As a princess, she's born into privilege and thus has never been able to prove herself to anyone.
Yennefer of Vengerberg is a powerful sorceress, born from poverty and with deformities. After being taken in and trained as a sorceress, she became feared by many. With her use of magic, she was able to transform herself, removing the physical deformities that once plagued her.
