OnePlus 7T vs. OnePlus 7: What's The Difference?

After all the rumors and leaks, the OnePlus 7T is now official.

For the uninitiated, OnePlus usually rolls out a T version months after launching a new smartphone, and it's always an upgrade of sorts over its standard flagship.

The story is the same for the OnePlus 7 and its successor, OnePlus 7T, and the question is still pretty much the same: What's new in OnePlus' T model?

OnePlus 7T vs. OnePlus 7

The OnePlus 7T has a 6.55-inch AMOLED display with a 2,400 x 1,080 resolution (402 ppi) and a 20:9 ratio. It has a refresh rate of 90 Hz and boasts HDR10+ support. Meanwhile, the OnePlus 7 has a 6.41-inch AMOLED display with a 2,340 x 1,080 resolution (402 ppi) and a 19.5:9 ratio. Needless to say, the former has a lot of significant improvements here over the latter.

The new T model also sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus paired with 8 GB of RAM, while the standard has a Snapdragon 855 with 6 or 8 GB of RAM. The two come in 128 and 256 GB storage configurations. In terms of performance, they might not differ too much, but if nothing else, the Snapdragon 855 Plus is the better chip for mobile gaming.

Another obvious difference between the two smartphones is that the OnePlus 7T runs on Android 10 with OxygenOS 10 on top right from the get-go. The OnePlus 7 ships with Android 9 Pie layered with a skin of OxygenOS 9.5.8.

That said, the most noticeable change is on the rear cameras. The OnePlus 7T has a circular camera housing that accommodates three sensors: 48-megapixel wide, 12-megapixel telephoto, and 16-megapixel ultrawide lenses. The OnePlus 7 has a 48-megapixel wide sensor coupled with a 5-megapixel depth sensor. The two have a 16-megapixel front snapper.

Speaking of similarities, they both have a USB-C port, and the two also don't have a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

In addition, the OnePlus 7T boasts a 3,800 mAh battery, and not only does it have a slightly larger capacity, but it also has a faster 30W charging rate. In comparison, the OnePlus 7 has a 3,700 mAh battery and 20W charging.

The OnePlus 7T is scheduled to go on sale with a starting price of $599 on Oct. 18 in the United States. For the record, the OnePlus 7 didn't become available in the country. Instead, the OnePlus 6T got a price drop.

The Bottom Line

All things considered, the OnePlus 7T is better than the OnePlus 7 across the board. In other words, when it comes to deciding which one to buy between the two, the choice is clear.

Just to recap, that's because the T version has a better screen, Android 10 out of the box, better cameras, and improved battery.
