A high-ranking Huawei official announced that the company is prepared to add Google services to the Mate 30 as soon as the ban ends.
Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO Richard Yu recently gave a group interview following the Mate 30 launch event in Munich, Germany. He told reporters about the challenges the Chinese tech company are facing regarding offering the new smartphone series without Google services.
Yu made it clear that Huawei will not ship the Mate 30 series with any Google software installed, except for the Android Open Source Project program that serves as the basis for the Huawei EMUI operating system.
However, as reported by Android Authority, it seems that Huawei is already preparing for the eventuality that the U.S. government will lift its sanctions against the company. This is primarily what has kept the smartphone maker from doing business with Google in the first place.
Adding Google Services To Huawei Mate 30
During the interview, Yu was asked whether Huawei was ready to bring back Google apps and services to its Mate 30 smartphones even via an over-the-air update. The Huawei executive reportedly said that the company would send out an update immediately, going so far as to claim that it will release it "over one night."
Huawei is likely trying to keep a positive outlook on the situation, but as observers pointed out, there's not much reason to believe that the problem would be resolved anytime soon.
Yu revealed that Huawei is being used as a "bargaining chip" in the ongoing trade war between the U.S. and Chinese governments. However, he expects that the rift between the "two great nations" is going to end sooner or later.
So far, Huawei is still unable to offer any Google-related services with its products. This means that the Huawei Mate 30 series doesn't have access to the Google Play Store, Gmail, or even YouTube.
A Silver Lining For Mate 30 Buyers
The Huawei exec's comments could serve as a piece of good news for consumers, especially those who are already looking forward to buying the new Mate 30 Pro. The new smartphone is already being touted as the "shining jewel" in Huawei's Mate 30 lineup.
Some tech reviewers praised the Mate 30 Pro for its stylish design, particularly its 6.53-inch AMOLED display that has curved sides reminiscent of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge's screen. It sports the latest Kirin 990 chip and the new Leica multi-camera setup.
The Huawei Mate 30 Pro is being offered for around $1,200. This model comes with 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage, and 4G capabilities. There's also a 5G version that costs around $1,300.
The only problem is getting users' hands on the new Huawei smartphones. The company announced that it doesn't plan on offering the Mate 30 series in all parts of Europe. Meanwhile, the lineup is not going to be available in the UK and the United States altogether.
Only time will tell whether Huawei will finally be able to add Google services to their latest flagship phones.
