Images of the upcoming Huawei Mate 30 series were leaked online less than a week before the smartphones' scheduled launch.
Twitter user Evan Blass recently released several photographs of what he claims are the new smartphones from the Huawei Mate 30 lineup. These included the Mate 30, Mate 30 Lite, Mate 30 Pro, and what looks like a Porsche Design-inspired handset.
The leaked promotional images come just a few days before the Mate 30 series' debut on Thursday, Sept. 19.
Huawei Mate 30 And Mate 30 Pro
Many of the leaked photos feature the standard Huawei Mate 30 and the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. Based on the photos, the Mate 30 Pro appears to have a wide display that curves on both its left and right sides, similar to the one seen on the new Vivo Nex 3's "waterfall" display. It also seems to have a large notch built right on top of the device.
As many experts predicted, the Mate 30 Pro makes use of the Leica camera system, complete with the appropriate branding at the back of the handset. It has four camera sensors all located within a circular cutout. If speculations on Twitter prove to be right, then the upcoming Huawei smartphone will have two 40-megapixel sensors, one 8-megapixel sensor, and one time-of-flight sensor.
Lastly, the Mate 30 Pro seems to have signal strength indicators on the top left corner of the display. This suggests that Huawei might also be planning on releasing a dual-SIM version of the smartphone in the future.
The standard Huawei Mate 30, on the other hand, has a relatively smaller display notch compared to its Mate 30 Pro counterpart. It is possible that the smartphone could have fewer sensors for its face unlock feature than the Pro version. There's also evidence to suggest that the regular Mate 30 could have dual-SIM functionality.
However, there aren't enough info on the device, especially regarding its backside, since Blass has yet to release more images on the Mate 30.
Some tech journalists expect both Mate 30 versions to use Huawei's 5G-capable Kirin 990 chipsets. The leaked photos show a 5G signal indicator on the standard smartphone, which could mean that there will be at least a 5G model coming out.
Huawei Mate 30 Lite And Porsche Design Edition Mate 30 Pro
Compared to the first two models, the Huawei Mate 30 Lite has a vastly different design. The smartphone features a hole-punch camera cutout right up front and a square camera array on the rear. It also has fingerprint sensor located at the back of the handset.
According to The Verge, Blass claimed that the Mate 30 Lite will have some similarities with the previously announced Huawei Nova 5i Pro. It could be that both devices will come equipped with a Kirin 810 chipset, which is relatively less powerful than the Kirin 990.
There are also images showing a possible Porsche Design edition of the Mate 30 Pro. The back of the smartphone seems to be covered in stylish leather. So far, Blass has only released a couple of renders depicting the Porsche Design edition Mate 30 Pro in black and red.
Design aesthetics aside, Huawei's new Mate 30 lineup won't come with official Google apps because of the ongoing ban on U.S. companies entering business deals with the Chinese smartphone maker. The restriction also prevents Huawei products from having access to leading services, including Google's Play Store.
