Samsung’s Galaxy Fold Will Finally Go On Sale This Friday

Various issues have pushed back the launch of Samsung's Galaxy Fold, but reports say its highly anticipated launch is finally set on Friday, Sept. 6.

The foldable phablet is expected to have a release limited to Samsung's home country of South Korea, but the international release will follow within the coming weeks.

First Roll Out Of The Fold

On Wednesday, Sept. 4, a source close to the company told Reuters that the Galaxy Fold has been scheduled to go on sale in South Korea on Friday. There aren't a lot of details that have been released on the device, but the insider revealed that it will cost around 2.4 million won ($1,980) in South Korea.

According to a news release from Samsung, the Galaxy Fold will be rolling out in the United States "in the coming weeks." It will be available in the colors Cosmos Black and Space Silver.

While no official date was confirmed for the United States, Tech Radar reported that Twitter leaker Evan Blass suggested a release date of Friday, Sept. 27.

The Fold was originally slated for an April release in the United States, but various issues in the sample units forced Samsung to delay the launch. Last July, the company announced that the model will be ready by September.

About The Galaxy Fold

The Samsung Galaxy Fold is the brand's first foldable smartphone, meant to combine the best features of smartphones and tablets into one device.

Its main feature is a wide, immersive 7.3-inch Infinity Flex display, which can be folded up and pocketed. When the device is folded, it can be used like a regular smartphone with easy access to apps from the front cover display.

When the screen is flipped open, the Galaxy Fold offers an unparalleled viewing experience on the biggest screen ever on a Samsung smartphone. Samsung also introduces a new feature on Fold that allows users to run three different apps on the screen simultaneously.

Other brands, such as Huawei, are also planning foldable smartphones of their own. However, Huawei has also faced delays with its Mate X, which is now slated for release between September and November 2019.

If the recent leaks on the Galaxy Fold is accurate, it appears as if Samsung is beating its rivals on the release date of its foldable smartphone.

Samsung is currently offering pre-registration for the Galaxy Fold on its official websites in the United States and United Kingdom.
