Instagram Ads For Fillers Banned For 'Misleading' Customers Into Thinking That They Would Look Like Kylie Jenner

Advertisements for cosmetic procedures have been banned from using images of Kim Kardashian West and Kylie Jenner to promote treatments.

According to the Advertising Standards Authority, a self-regulatory organization said that the promotion of packages that offer lips, cheeks, and jawline surgery may have misled customers into thinking that these would make them look like their favorite celebrities.

A Kylie Jenner Cosmetic Filler Packages

Two Instagram posts, one from the beauty salon Queen of Aesthetics, promoted a "Kylie Jenner Package" that consisted of the lip, cheek, and jawline fillers. The ad also used a photo of the 22-year-old reality television star/businesswoman.

"[W]e considered the ad should not misleadingly exaggerate the effect those products could achieve," reads a statement from the ASA. "We had not seen evidence that the products' effects on Kylie Jenner, as featured in the ad, could be achieved through use of the product only."

Queen of Aesthetics, a beauty salon, defended the ad saying that it was not meant to convey that the procedure can make customers resemble Jenner. They explained that the package was popular because the Kardashian-Jenner family has been known to have lip, cheek, and jawline enhancements.

However, the ASA upheld that Queen of Aesthetics failed to provide evidence to back the ad's claims and, therefore, violated its policies.

Another post, this time from Faces by AKJ Aesthetics, used an image of Jenner and promoted a "Kylie Package" as a contest prize. The ASA concluded that the ad has "irresponsibly" promoted cosmetic procedure as a contest prize and mislead consumers into believing that using the said package, they will have features similar to the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star.

The beauty salon was also called out for advertising botox, a prescription medicine.

Similarly, a third ad featuring Kardashian West was banned for violating its policy against the promotion of botox and being misleading.

Instagram's Policies On Ads Concerning Cosmetic Surgery

Earlier this month, Instagram introduced a new policy that limits advertisements that promote weight loss teas and cosmetic procedures in an effort to address the negative impact of the social media platform to body image.

Under the new policy, posts for weight loss products and cosmetic procedures will be barred from being viewed by users under the age of 18. Posts for products with miraculous claims and offer discounts will be removed or banned.
