Every Sunday in October, users of the popular dating app Tinder can participate in an interactive adventure that will take them to the end of the world.
Swipe To Find Love During The Apocalypse
Swipe Night, Tinder's first ever scripted content, is a dating thriller that asks the question: "Who would you spend your last night alive with?" The story is told in the choose-your-own-adventure format where players will be asked to swipe left or right — the app's signature feature to approve or reject a potential romantic partner — to make decisions that will advance the plot.
"Seven years ago, Tinder revolutionized the way we meet with the invention of its Swipe feature," stated Tinder CEO Elie Seidman. "Now, with Swipe Night, we're proud to be pushing the envelope again, by letting people connect in ways they can't anywhere else."
Swipe Night stars Angela Wong Carbone (Chinatown Horror Story), Jordan Christian Hearn (Inherent Vice), and Shea Gabor. The series is written by Nicole Delaney of Netflix's Big Mouth and Brandon Zuck, who also worked in HBO's Insecure. Sitting on the director's chair is Karena Evans, the genius behind the viral music videos for Drake's "God's Plan" and "Nice For What."
"We jumped at the chance to work with a brand like Tinder," said Evans. "They gave us the opportunity to experiment with new ways to tell a story, with a highly-engaged, diverse community that's incredibly open-minded."
Throughout six episodes, users will face "moral dilemmas and practical choices." They will have up to seven seconds to either swipe left or swipe right. Once a decision was made, there is no way to turn back.
'Swipe Night' Coming To Tinder Apps
The first episode of Swipe Night will go live on the Tinder app on Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. local time. Each episode will only be available for six hours, from 6 p.m. until midnight. A new episode will be uploaded to the app every Sunday.
According to sources who have knowledge of the project, the dating service is considering a later run on traditional television networks and streaming platforms. Netflix released Black Mirror: Bandersnatch last year, which had a similar choose-your-own-adventure format.
After the series has aired, the dating app will remember critical choices that the users made. These choices will be added to profiles as a nice icebreaker between users.
