Renders of the new 2019 foldable Motorola Razr have allegedly leaked.
From the look of things, they stay true to the iconic Razr design, and if they turn out to be the real deal, then it won't just be a taste of the foldable future but also a dose of nostalgia for fans.
Razr Reboot
The images come from the Weibo user @JJUT_, but at the time of this writing, their post has been removed. However, as all things on the internet, nothing is exactly deleted for good, and the pictures quickly spread online. As such, Slashleaks, a notable website when it comes to gadget leaks, got a hold of them and posted them up on its website.
Now as everyone can see, the device (pictured above) has a chin, a notch, and a hinge, sporting the Razr design. The purported renders don't give a good look at the phone fully folded, but they do show its triangular packaging and contents: a charger, a USB-A to USB-C cable, a 3.5 mm headphone jack dongle, a pair of earbuds, and what seems to be a dock of some sort.
There's not much to go by, but its speakers could be in the chin, which seems likelier than a vibrating display that produces sounds, as seen in the LG G8 ThinQ.
Unlike the Samsung Galaxy Fold, which is facing one problem after another, it doesn't unfold into a tablet. Instead, it unfolds into a standard smartphone and folds into a compact clamshell, but based on the images, there's no telling whether it would have a small display when folded or not.
As always, though, it's safer to take this news with a grain of salt. However, it's worth pointing out that @JJUT_ is considered to be a reliable source in the Weibo community.
Already Confirmed?
Back in January, reports of Motorola filing a patent for a foldable Razr smartphone started making the rounds online. These alleged renders are pretty much in line with that patent, but still, it's hard to say whether they are real or simply the work of concept images creators.
Someone from the company, particularly its vice president of Global Product Dan Dery, has already confirmed it has "started to work on foldables a long time ago." In other words, a foldable device is definitely in its cards.
Potential Razr Specs And Price
According to leaks and rumors in the past, the phone is expected to house (via XDA-Developers) a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710, a 6.20-inch display with a 2,142 x 876 resolution, and a secondary display with an 800 x 600 resolution. It's also said to come in configurations of 4 GB/64 GB and 6 GB/128 GB of memory and storage and cost $1,500, though it's unclear which combination of RAM and capacity that price point is referring to. In addition, it could be available at Verizon with the model number XT-2000.
At any rate, it seems to be a great option for those who want to get into the foldable smartphone future without a tablet form factor in the mix and instead get a more compact clamshell one.
