Farewell AllThingsD, hello Re/code

Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher published their last article on AllThingsD on December 31 after 40,000 posts since the tech website's inception in 2007. As the cliché goes, when a door closes, a window opens and the duo who started the "D: All Things Digital Conference" in 2003, has launched a new website called Re/Code.

The closure of the popular tech website comes after the failure to seal a new deal with Dow Jones. As AllThingsD parts ways with the Wall Street Journal, its brains followed suit.

"When AllThingsD began, we told readers we were aiming to present a fusion of new-media timeliness and energy with old-media standards for quality and ethics. And we hope you agree that we've done that," recalled Mossberg and Swisher. "Over the years, we've had numerous scoops, influential reviews and thoughtful analysis pieces. We have been the first to tell you what was going on inside the big tech companies, from Google to Microsoft to Amazon; what stealthy startups were doing and who was giving them money; and even exactly when Apple was introducing its next iDevice."

The tandem also listed how it gave honest reviews of new products, revealed hidden agenda of service providers and contributed to innovating technology journalism.

"...we are deeply grateful to our small but mighty team of writers, editors, developers, conference producers and business folks. And we thank Dow Jones for giving us the chance to run a small, entrepreneurial business inside a very big media company. Most of all, we are in your debt for being our readers, and we hope you will follow us to the new site and conferences," Mossberg and Swisher wrote.

In December, Swisher asked the stellar crew of the publication to list the best stories they have done since 2007. Meanwhile, Mossberg's last column for the WSJ recalled the most influential gadgets he reviewed in the last two decades.

The new website can be found on recode.net.

"Happy re/new year! While we think tech news is important, it's a better day to refresh, reimagine, reinvent and, most of all, rest." its main page announced.

Swisher also announced the upcoming "Code Conference" on May 27 to 29 in Racho Palos Verdes in California. The first group of speakers will consists of Sergey Brin of Google, Brian Krzanich of Intel, Brian Roberts of Comcast among others.
