Google has sent out invites on New Year's Eve to subscribers of Google Play Music All Access to purchase Google Glass. The VIP invitations to get hold of the wearable technology gives subscribers of the $10 per month music service, a chance to explore how it is like to use the $1,500-device that is still slow on the rollout.
The Google Glass invites, however, are only for those who are in the United States as they need a U.S. shipping address.
"Your Chance to Buy Google Glass," the email invite from Google read. "With the launch of Google Play Music on Google Glass, we've secured VIP invitations for All Access customers to join the Glass Explorer Program. Interested in rocking out while exploring with Glass? Sign up to receive your invitation below!"
The Glass creator announced in November that Glass Explorers will be able to access their favorite Google Play Music library just by saying "OK Glass, listen to..." It even unwrapped a light-weight, customizable earbuds that has been specifically engineered for the wearable technology.
The invites are aimed at expanding the number of early users of the technology as Google launches the Google Play Music for Glass Explorers. The first batch of Explorers were those who signed up during the 2012 Google I/O in San Francisco. Invites for the wearable technology were also sent out to developers in November.
Those who want to buy a Google Glass can wait for its official roll out this year with the price expected to be a bit lower than its current tag price. For those who cannot wait, there are individuals selling them in eBay and Craigslist. There are also people who are selling the invites online so technology enthusiasts can buy the Glass directly from Google.
The recent round of invites is just part and parcel of the preparations of Google for the official release of the wearable technology. Recently, there have been tweaks such as the feature that allows users to take photos just by winking and prescription lenses to pair with the Google Glass.
