Capcom succeeds with flying colors by launching Resident Evil 2 remake two decades after the release of the original game.
Just three days after its official debut on Xbox One, the PlayStation 4, and Windows PC, the second take at the iconic survival horror game stormed to the top of the UK charts, notably making the same feat back in 1998. Resident Evil 2 is the game developer's biggest UK launch since the release of Resident Evil 7.
Resident Evil 2 Tops UK Charts
Capcom gets its much-needed boost with the Resident Evil 2 launch now that the gleaming remaster is back at the top of the UK charts after almost 21 years since the original version hit Sony's PlayStation 1. It is also Capcom's biggest new offering in two years following the huge success of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, which was launched in January 2017.
Resident Evil 2 has sold about 18 percent less than the copies sold by RE 7 in the same month a couple of years ago. However, the number does not include the digital copies sold by the game. Chart-Track, the UK numbers firm, only counts the boxed copies.
Moreover, the survival horror game knocks off the new Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe from the summit of the UK charts for the first time since the latter's debut earlier this January on the Nintendo Switch. It drops to the fourth spot as it sees a 44 percent decrease in weekly sales.
Bandai Namco Entertainment title Ace Combat 7, which was released on Jan. 18, slipped from last week's top 2 to no. 6. The combat flight simulation game's sales see a 51 percent drop in sales on its second-week performance, a reasonable descent for a game that only caters to a specific group of players.
