Famous talk-variety show host Ellen DeGeneres says that she is tired of doing the rhythmless dance and wants to move on.
The Ellen DeGeneres Show is on to 16th season since its inception in 2003. Following its staggering success over the years, DeGeneres is considering retirement from the daytime talk show after her contract ends in 2020.
A 'Good Time To Quit'
DeGeneres has been tied to the show for more than a decade now. Her wife, actress Portia De Rossi, believes that it is a good time to quit and give the stand-up comedian a chance to explore other artistic opportunities.
Even though the comedian-actress renewed her deal in 2016, she almost declined the offer that would keep her in front of her audience through the show's 17th run, reported The New York Times following an interview with the host.
Torn Between The Two
DeGeneres also revealed that she hesitated before renewing her contract until 2020. She had been going back and forth with her wife and brother, Vance DeGeneres, asking for advice.
However, her wife and her older brother, another comedian, have been giving her a conflicting advice. While de Rossi feels that it is a good time to look at other creative projects, her brother has managed to change her mind on more than one occasion.
"She (de Rossi) gets mad when my brother tells me I can't stop," DeGeneres disclosed in her interview.
De Rossi, on the other hand, believes that her wife can tackle other things such as radio and podcasts. She also thinks that DeGeneres is a superb actress and does not have to rely on this talk show for her creativeness.
"I don't see the end of her show as her career ending," said De Rossi.
Exploring Her Dark Sides
DeGeneres, in her series of interviews, talked about the burden of being an embodiment of positivity such as expectations of doing the dance that she stopped on her show two years ago. She also expressed that she wants to let go of her sunny image and explore her dark sides such as regrets, anxieties, anger, and the like.
"I wanted to show all of me. The talk show is me, but I'm also playing a character of a talk-show host," she said. "There's a tiny, tiny bit of difference," DeGeneres told E! Online regarding her recent stand-up special, Relatable. The show is set to premiere on Netflix on Dec.18.
It is still not known whether the show will go on after expires, but the actress hopes to do more movies. DeGeneres wants to take a break from her super nice image and take darker and unappealing roles.
