The wait is finally over, as Apple has officially showed off its 2018 iPhone lineup: the iPhone XS, the iPhone XS Max, and the iPhone XR.
After months of rumors, Apple unveiled the new iPhones at an event in the Steve Jobs Theater. Here's a quick rundown of what each of the 2018 iPhones offer.
iPhone XS
Apple described the iPhone XS, along with its larger counterpart, the iPhone XS Max, as "the most advanced iPhones ever."
The iPhone XS, the successor of the iPhone X, comes with a 5.8-inch OLED screen, an upgraded dual rear camera, faster Face ID, wider stereo sound, and dual SIM capabilities. The device is powered by the A12 Bionic chip, which is the first 7-nanometer chip installed in a smartphone, plus the next-generation Neural Engine to support various iPhone XS features such as photography and augmented reality.
Apple also claims that the front and back glass design of the iPhone XS is "the most durable glass ever in a smartphone," with IP68 splash and water resistance improved to up to 2 meters for 30 minutes.
The iPhone XS will launch alongside the iOS 12, with features such as new Animoji and Memoji, Screen Time, Siri Shortcuts, and new augmented reality experiences.
iPhone XS Max
The iPhone XS Max is basically the bigger version of the iPhone XS, with a 6.5-inch OLED screen.
There were debates on what the larger iPhone XS will be named, as rumors claimed that it would either be called the iPhone XS Plus, which follows previous styles, or the iPhone XS Max, which is an all-new branding for Apple. It looks like Apple went with the "new" instead of the "usual."
iPhone XR
The third 2018 iPhone model is the iPhone XR, the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone that was once thought to be named the iPhone XC.
The third smartphone model retains important features such as the A12 Bionic chip and Face ID, but to lower its price tag, Apple removed 3D Touch and used a single rear camera, in addition to the display switch from OLED.
