New 2018 iPhone leaks revealed that the name of the 6.5-inch OLED iPhone will be the iPhone XS Max, as well as the expected price tags for all three models that Apple will unveil at a Sept. 12 event.
Apple is preparing to announce three 2018 iPhone models, specifically 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch OLED iPhones and a 6.1-inch LCD iPhone. All three devices will feature a design based on last year's iPhone X.
Apple Decides To Go With iPhone XS Max
Shortly after Apple released invitations for the highly anticipated Sept. 12 event, an exclusive 9to5Mac report revealed that the 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch OLED iPhones will be collectively known as the iPhone XS. Images of the iPhone X successor were also released, but its name may be considered weird and confusing as XS could be taken as both too big (excess) or too small (XS for extra small), though it is meant to be read as the iPhone "Ten S."
A follow-up 9to5Mac report, however, brings Apple's branding decisions into even stranger territory. Instead of the 6.5-inch OLED iPhone being named the iPhone XS Plus, it will apparently be known as the iPhone XS Max.
The information, which was confirmed by people familiar with the marking plans of Apple, replaces the long-standing "Plus" moniker with "Max," though the reason behind it remains unclear. It is also unknown if future iPhone models will go with "Max" for the larger version instead of "Plus," or if it will only apply for the 2018 iPhones.
New iPhone 2018 Price Tags
Meanwhile, a separate 9to5Mac report focused on pricing rumors for the new iPhones. According to Macerkopf's sources, the LCD "iPhone 9" will carry a price tag of €799, the iPhone XS will be sold at €909, and the iPhone XS Max will be sold at €1,149.
Looking at Germany's Apple Store, 9to5Mac found that the iPhone 8 is being sold at €799, the iPhone 8 Plus at €909, and the iPhone X at €1,149. This results in the prediction that, in any territory, the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone will cost the same as the current price of the iPhone 8, the iPhone XS as the iPhone 8 Plus, and the iPhone XS Max as the iPhone X.
In the United States, this translates to $699 for the LCD iPhone, $799 for the iPhone XS, and $999 for the iPhone XS Max. However, these are only for the base models with 64 GB storage, with the 256 GB models expected to cost $150 more, though there are rumors that there will also be 512 GB options.
