Last year, video game developer Epic Games introduced a brand-new game to the electronic gaming industry. That game was Fortnite.
125 Million Players
On Tuesday, the Fortnite team announced on Epic Games' official blog that they reached a significant milestone. Currently, there are over 125 million players that are participating in different Fortnite communities around the world. The video gamers could enter the Fortnite world to rescue the remains of humankind from zombie-like creatures.
Fortnite continues to be a fan-favorite game one year after its inception. Video game insiders state that it remains successful because of its ability to played on numerous gaming platforms. SuperData, a market researcher that focuses on video games and interactive media, stated that Fortnite: Battle Royale was the number one bestselling console game and number five best PC game in the world for April.
The 'Fortnite' World Cup
Epic Games continued to share news regarding their upcoming 2018-19 Fortnite competition series. The video game developer would give their support to various activities. These events included online and organized competitions across the globe. They also revealed that any player could enter and win these events.
The events will lead towards the Fortnite World Cup qualifiers, which will start this fall. Based on merit, the solo players or duos who succeed at the qualifying rounds would be invited to compete in the very first Fortnite World Cup. During the massive tournament, players would be fighting for $100 million in prizes. Epic Games noted that the Fortnite World Cup would take place sometime in 2019.

Fortnite brought Avengers: Infinity War into the game for a limited time. Epic Games created a crossover event called "Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup." The game mode allowed players to search for all six Infinity Stones and if they caught all six items, they would transform into the film's archvillain, Thanos. The crossover came about after Epic Games creative director Donald Mustard had a conversation with Fortnite fans and Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo.
When Epic Games released the Fortnite: Battle Royale Season 4 Battle Pass on May 1, fans were able to grab several new features. In addition to the unique character skins, they were able to unlock new areas of the game. A significant plot point of the Season 4 Battle Pass involved the aftermath of a comet hitting Dusty Depot.
Ohio's Ashland University became the first college in the United States to offer a scholarship for Fortnite: Battle Royale players. Scholarship students will have access to coaches and staff members who will guide students to improve their skills in both the game and in the classroom. They will also receive access to Ashland University's trainers and practice facilities.
