Acer is expanding its gaming laptop lineup with the new Predator Helios 500.
As the successor to the Predator Helios 300, it's taking things up a notch with one of Intel's best processors and options for more powerful graphics cards.
Gaming Laptop Powerhouse
The Predator Helios 500 is 17.3-inch laptop that offers up to an overclockable eighth-generation Core i9+ chip under the hood, along with an overclockable Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 with 8 GB of memory. It can go all the way up to 64 GB of RAM with a 1 TB SSD.
When it comes to the screen, there are two configurations to choose from: a 1080p or 4K 144 Hz display, both of which support Nvidia G-Sync.
It's got Acer's bells and whistles too, from its AeroBlade 3D fans to TrueHarmony audio technology. Just like most gaming laptops, it's got plenty of LED lights, including a backlit keyboard.
Price starts at $1,999, but that's pretty much expected for beefy gaming laptops. It will start hitting the shelves sometime in June in the United States.
Predecessor's New Special Edition
Acer has more up its sleeve than just the Predator Helios 500. Case in point, there's also the new Predator Helios 300 Special Edition. It's described to sport an "unusually chic design for gaming notebooks," which is really referring to its white chassis with gold trimmings.
Unlike its more powerful sibling, it can only go up to a Core i7+ chip, GeForce GTX 1060, and a 512 GB SSD (or 2 TB HDD). It does have a 15.6-inch 1080p display with a 144 Hz refresh rate, but there's no option for a 4K panel. On top of that, it also has the Acer's proprietary AeroBlade 3D fans.
One obvious advantage this has is its lower price point. That's just an assumption, though, since the company hasn't announced its pricing and availability details just yet.
"We've expanded our Predator Helios gaming notebook line in response to popular demand from gamers seeking extreme performance on the go. The Predator Helios 500 and Helios 300 gaming notebooks feature Acer's proprietary thermal technologies and powerful components that, coupled with our award-winning software, deliver unparalleled gaming experiences," Jerry Kao, President of IT Products Business of Acer, said.
To boil things down, the Predator Helios 500 and the Predator Helios 300 Special Edition are two of the gaming laptops that Acer is putting out there for gamers who need raw computing power on the go.
