There are clear indicators that Google Glass prescription lenses will be available soon. Stepping up on the plate to serve Glass users who want to use the wearable technology over graded lenses are Rochester Optical in New York and Longe Optical in Indiana.
Rochester Optical announced in November that it will produce prescription, sport, and fashion lenses fit for Google Glass. The company even tapped the services of Tim Moore, co-founder of SayItSocial and Google collaborator Venture Glass, to boost its presence in the wearable technology industry.
The company announced, Wednesday, on its Facebook page that its custom lenses will be available in January, "UPDATE: Coming January 2014 - Custom Prescription Lenses for #GoogleGlass."
This week the company also sent out a survey to Glass users, dubbed Explorers, who need to upgrade their lenses to find out how Glass users want to customize their prescription lenses.
"Where will you dazzle and amaze the public wearing your Google Glass with prescription lenses," one of the questions read. Another inquires about the frequency of use, "Are you a true full-time Google Glass wearer, or just a part-timer? Tell us how often you will wear your Google Glass with prescription lenses."
According to the same survey, the colors of the frame will come to serve those who are conservative and adventurous with offerings such as green, purple, charcoal, sky, tangerine, yellow, and shale.
Rochester will also offer a variety of lens materials from basic plastic, impact resistant, and high index. All of these may come with various coatings to enhance the visual experience.
Meanwhile, Longe Optical, a company that claims to be a participant in the Google Glass Explorer program, rolled out an add-on for the wearable technology on Tuesday.
"We knew immediately that prescription glass wearers will need a solution for high-quality, dependable lenses for this new technology, and that our ClearVu Digital lens technology would be the perfect match for Google Glass. We're proud to be the first optical company in the world to unveil this new technology, and we look forward to optimizing the Google Glass experience," it stated on its website.
According to the company, its ClearVu Digital Lenses can provide up to 40 percent larger field of vision and promising clarity and definition. However, Longe Optical did not disclose details such as the release date and pricing of its digital lenses.
