The upcoming HTC U12 Plus flagship smartphone has leaked extensively ahead of its debut, and now the company itself has listed it prematurely on its European website.
HTC's smartphones were highly regarded a few years ago when the HTC One M7 and its successor, the HTC One M8, made waves with their sleek designs and high-end specs for that time.
In recent years, however, HTC has significantly fallen behind rivals and it's been trying to catch up, without much success. Its last flagships failed to replicate the massive success the company once had, but HTC is still trying to deliver a flagship that will place it back on top.
HTC U12 Plus Premature Listings
Earlier this month, HTC announced a special event scheduled for May 23, when it's expected to take the wraps off its latest flagship. Before the big release, the HTC U12 popped up online in all its glory, likely prematurely listed by accident.
Developer Roland Quandt was the first to spot the smartphone on an HTC website testing subdomain, revealing its specs, design, and pricing, all of which fall in line with recent leaks. HTC also listed the device on its European Online Store, further confirming its imminent release. Both listings have since been removed, seemingly bolstering the theory that they accidentally appeared prematurely.
HTC U12 Plus Specs And Price
Based on the listings, the HTC U12 will cost a hefty $5,888 yuan in China, which would translate to roughly $920, for the variant with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of native storage space. A 64 GB version of the smartphone was listed with a £699 price tag in the UK, which would be roughly $939.
The smartphone will boast high-end specifications so a budget-friendly price tag is out of the question, but it's nonetheless expected to cost significantly less in the United States when it makes its official debut.
The HTC U12 Plus is expected to feature a 6-inch Super LCD6 display with a WQHD+ resolution of 2,880 x 1,440 pixels, a Snapdragon 845 processor, 6 GB of RAM, 64 GB or 128 GB of internal storage space, a microSD card slot for additional storage of up to 2 TB, a 3,500 mAh battery, Boomsound speakers, and IP68 certification for dust and water resistance.
It should compete at the high end of the smartphone market, going up against Apple's iPhone X, the Samsung Galaxy S9, the Huawei P20 Pro, the newly-unveiled LG G7 ThinQ, and other top-notch flagships.
