That big event on Avengers: Infinity War had fans wondering if Adam Warlock will save the day, but the Russo brothers confirm he will not.
Although Avengers 4 will introduce new characters to the team, Adam will not be one of them.
Why Adam Warlock Will Not Appear In 'Avengers 4'
Adam Warlock plays a major role in the Infinity War comics, wherein he takes control of Thanos' (Josh Brolin) Infinity Gauntlet and the Infinity Stones. However, Avengers: Infinity War's Joe Russo confirms that will not happen in the movies.
"Yeah [Adam Warlock]'s not showing up in our stories," he said. "Look, our job as we said a million times is to tell the story of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, not to do direct adaptations of the comics because we're comic book fans."
He reiterated that he is not interested in retelling a story as a director. Russo rather wants to keep surprising the viewers and continue the story that Iron Man started.
"If I know all the events story as they're going to happen then what's the point of going to the film?"
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 made a reference to the character in a post-credits scene, teasing his imminent arrival to the MCU. Now that the Russo brothers have cleared the rumors of his appearance on the upcoming Avengers movie, fans will not likely see him until 2020, when the third installment of the space superhero series is planned to be released.
Who Will Save The Galaxy From Thanos In Place Of Adam Warlock?
Meanwhile, it looks like Captain Marvel will take the place of Adam Warlock and save the day instead. The post-credits scene of Infinity War showed Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) contacting the superhero after seeing the aftermath of the fight with Thanos. Her movie comes out on March 6, 2019, just in time to make an Avengers debut in Avengers 4 on May 3, 2019.
Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) is also believed to be playing a huge role in defeating Thanos because of his ability to go into the quantum realm. With time travel being the biggest theory for the next film, his powers are certainly helpful in that regard. Ant-Man and the Wasp is slated for release on July 6, 2018.
Meanwhile, Avengers: Infinity War is now playing in theaters. It has already made $1 billion at the box office in 11 days, the fastest that any movie has achieved. It also set a weekend opening record of $250 million, besting Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
