Blizzard confirmed that the Uprising event of multiplayer shooter Overwatch will return this year, but it will be renamed to Overwatch Archives.
This year's Overwatch Archives will apparently be titled Retribution, leading to speculation from gamers who are longing for more glimpses into Overwatch lore.
Overwatch Uprising Event Renamed To Overwatch Archives
A teaser video that was recently rolled out on social media teased the return of the Uprising event of Overwatch on April 10. However, upon further inspection, the video contained secret clues that hinted the involvement of Blackwatch, the black ops division of Overwatch.
Blizzard has now released a new Developer Update video featuring game director Jeff Kaplan and lead engineer Tim Ford. The video confirms the return of the Uprising event, but in its new form as Overwatch Archives.
The brawl from last year's Uprising event will return for players who missed it the first time. The PvE brawl covers the first mission of Tracer as an Overwatch agent in a team with Mercy, Reinhardt, and Torbjorn, as they took on an omnic uprising in King's Row. The cosmetic items from Uprising 2017 will also be made available again, including the skins.
Of course, the more important news is that this year's spring event will now be named Overwatch Archives. Moving forward, the Overwatch Archives will provide more glimpses into Overwatch history, with the King's Row Uprising now categorized as one of these important events.
There will be new loot box items for this year's Overwatch Archives, including "a skin for your favorite Shimada brother," as Kaplan teased. He then ended the video by saying "we hope you're ready for the retribution," which is likely the title for the event.
Overwatch Archives: Retribution Speculations
Kaplan noted that more information regarding Overwatch Archives: Retribution will be revealed soon, including a "really cool" video that will be shown on April 4 at the Overwatch League broadcast.
Meanwhile, in the Overwatch subreddit, players are already speculating on the event that will be featured in the upcoming event. The consensus is that Blackwatch will be the main characters this time around, so the PvE brawl will likely have a team of Reaper, McCree, Genji, and Moira.
One of the theories gaining traction is that Overwatch Archives: Retribution will focus on the Blackwatch mission that resulted in a complaint from the Japanese government. This incident happened before the King's Row Uprising, but the Blackwatch agents violated their suspension and participated in dealing with the omnic uprising.
