The Overwatch Uprising event will return on April 10, according to a teaser video that contains secret clues to what gamers can expect from this year's version.
Last year's event chronicled a major event in Overwatch history, and gamers are hoping that this year's version of Uprising will also focus on a pivotal point in the multiplayer shooter's lore.
'Overwatch' Uprising 2017
A teaser video rolled out on social media teases the return of Overwatch's Uprising event, which first appeared in 2017.
In last year's edition of Uprising, the major feature was a four-player brawl that places a team composed of Tracer, Torbjorn, Reinhardt, and Mercy in battle against an omnic horde. The brawl was a look at one of the most important events in Overwatch lore, when Tracer, in her first mission as an Overwatch agent, helped quell the omnic uprising. The event also offered several legendary skins and other event-exclusive cosmetic items.
In previous returning Overwatch events, such as the Year of the Dog event in February, gamers were able to play similar modes that were introduced in their earlier versions. New cosmetic items such as skins were offered, and players were also allowed to purchase the skins from the previous versions of the events at a discount.
Gamers are expecting much of the same thing in this year's Uprising event, especially the PvE brawl. However, it appears that Blizzard has something extra in store.
What Will Happen In New 'Overwatch' Uprising Event?
The teaser video for the Overwatch Uprising event looks very simple, with File 00382 - King's Row Uprising apparently recorded seven years ago. The security clearance is tagged as confidential, but with a declassified date of April 10.
However, upon closer look, the teaser video actually contains some secret clues. It looks like it is glitching out, but what is really happening is that some of the text are being replaced.
During the glitches, the name of the file is being replaced by File 00274 - Blackwatch Archives, the date is changed from seven years ago to eight years ago, and the security clearance goes from confidential to classified.
What do all these clues mean? That remains to be seen, but one of the more popular theories is that the upcoming event may show the moment when the Blackwatch team betrayed the rest of the Overwatch.
In addition, the name of the event may be changed to Blackwatch Archives or simply Archives. That sounds like a better name for an annual event that is focused on Overwatch lore, and eliminates confusion with the Overwatch League team of the same name from Boston.
