Earlier this month, a slew of leaked details revealed Motorola's 2018 budget-tier lineup. Now, a new leak showcases the Moto G6 Play, G6, and G6 Plus.
Industry insiders confirm that Lenovo, the company that owns the iconic brand, prepared three new models intended as entry-level devices.
Previous reports only hinted that the manufacturer plans to sell a G6-branded smartphone this year. In fact, consumers already expect the company to have a yearly refresh for its well-received G-series of Android smartphones.
Moto G6 Play
The Moto G6 Play is reportedly the base unit among the three G6 variants being offered. While all three come with somewhat similar designs, there are some differences that set it apart from the other two. The G6 play has the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor that is marked with the Motorola logo.
It sports a single rear-facing camera with a 12-megapixel sensor with an LED flash and textured circular bezel to protect the lens. Its front-facing shooter is a 5-megapixel unit that likewise comes with a dedicated flash for selfies. Internal storage options available are 16 GB and 32 GB.
A 5.7-inch IPS touch screen sits up front with a 1440 x 720 display resolution. A 1.4 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC with up to 3 GB of RAM and Adreno 505 GPU handles its workload.
It will ship with Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box. A 4,000mAh battery with fast-charging gives it a longer battery life compared to its other two variants.
Moto G6 and Moto G6 Plus
Just like the Moto G6 play, both the G6 and G6 Plus carry the same design albeit with some notable changes. Instead of a rear-mounted biometric sensor, the two have it relocated to the front just below the display.
Moreover, its primary shooter is a dual-lens setup, which pairs a 12-megapixel sensor with a 5-megapixel unit. It also comes with a 2-tone LED flash compared to the single one of the G6 Play. Both also sport a 16-megapixel front-facing camera with a dedicated LED flash on its front panel.
The G6 Plus touts a larger 5.93-inch IPS panel with a 2160 x 1080 display resolution. The G6, on the other hand, comes with a 5.7-inch IPS unit with the same display resolution that makes the smaller unit more pixel-dense than the former.
A 2.2 GHz Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC and Adreno 508 GPU with up to 6 GB of RAM is paired with the G6 Plus. Meanwhile, the G6 holds a 1.8 GHz Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC and Adreno 506 GPU with up to 4 GB of RAM.
Internal storage options for the bigger model are 32 GB and 64 GB, while the smaller one offers 32 GB and 16 GB. Both feature microSD expansion slots for added memory space. A 3,200mAh and 3,000mAh battery both with Turbo-charging technology is available for each unit respectively. Android 8.0 Oreo comes pre-installed for both models just like on the G6 Play.
Availability And Price
Motorola is expected to release the Moto G6 Play, G6, and G6 Plus sometime next month. Estimated prices for each will be $187, $234, and $265 respectively for the base models, according to Lenovo insiders.
