Sony has kicked off the first-ever PlayStation Experience event with a 90-minute keynote presentation that included a showcasing of one of its most anticipated games: Uncharted.
The event saw a live gameplay demo, in which Naughty Dog's Bruce Stratley played through Uncharted 4: A Thief's End for 15 minutes.
At the beginning of the video, Nathan Drake, the game's protagonist, is seen standing on a cliff that overlooks a stormy sea. The opening transitions into gameplay, and Drake enters a cave behind him, using a flashlight to see.
He then climbs past waterfalls and rocks, exiting the first cave and entering a second one, which is covered in foliage, which definitely makes the environment feel more natural. Drake then is seen making his way to a rocky area, which also is the location of a number of men with rifles. Drake sneaks up behind the men, disarms them and knocks them out.
As Drake continues to climb, he comes across more enemies, engaging in combat with them. As one enemy throws a grenade, Drake takes out his grappling hook and swings down to a platform below. After taking out a few enemies, he tries to throw one of them off a cliff, however the man grabs on to Drake's leg, after which he is kicked off and the battle continues.
The rest of the video follows Drake as he takes on enemies, explores a jungle and searches for pirate treasure. We even get to see him use some new equipment, including a rope and grappling hook, which will be useful in the unstable environment. At certain points, rocks give way and crumble. Interestingly enough, Drake's older brother also appears at the end.
Despite one glitch in the gameplay, in which Drake fell through the environment and restarted at a checkpoint, the demo is a nice start to the PlayStation Experience event. Unfortunately, there is still no official release date for the game, but more news about it will likely be released at E3 in 2015. At E3 2014, it was announced that the game would be heading to PlayStation 4 in 2015.
It is expected that the game will run 1080p at 60 frames per second, and that it may come with Uncharted remasters for the PlayStation 4.
PlayStation Experience is a two-day community event Dec. 6-7 dedicated to PlayStation fans with panels, keynotes, giveaways, merchandise and contests.
