Ghost Recon: Wildlands players who have long been requesting for a PvP mode can fret no longer: Ubisoft has just announced that "Ghost War," an upcoming tactical PvP mode, is coming this summer via a beta period, with a full stable release slated this fall.
Ghost War PvP Mode For 'Ghost Recon: Wildlands' Announced
In Ghost War, two groups duke it out inside vast maps inspired by the game's interpretation of Bolivia. The player-versus-player will still be the four-on-four combat that Ubisoft originally promised as part of its post-launch content plans.
Players can choose from a list of classes designed for certain roles in Ghost War, and new PvP mechanics will be introduced. The four-on-four death match that will take place in vast maps that employ different weather and time elements, which builds off the tactical experience of the core game.
The developers have yet to announce the classes, although the trailer does show some players with light or heavy weapons while some take advantage of drones to get a leg-up in the combat. For now, it's certain that all classes will have unlocks available, including various upgrade options and perks.
New Suppression Mechanic
Probably the most interesting part is the new systems Ubisoft Paris is developing to include in Ghost War. This includes a new sound system that marks locations around the map where players detect noise. With Ghost War, players will have more tactical opportunities to locate their opponents.
Ghost War will also feature a new suppression system, according to Lucian Istrate, lead game designer. A suppression mechanic was actually included in the previous title, Ghost Recon Future Soldier. With it, players were forced to retreat back into cover if an enemy fired on their position, which allows other soldiers to move to another position to flank foes.
Ghost Recon: Wildlands Ghost War Release Date
Ghost Recon: Wildlands's open beta kicks off later this summer for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Ubisoft has yet to provide details on how players can participate in the beta.
The PvP mode then launches in the fall as a free update for anyone who owns a copy of the game. Disappointingly, Ubisoft hasn't announced specific open beta dates yet, but a summer release window means it shouldn't be far off.
