Leaked merchandise for Assassin's Creed: Origins have surfaced online, giving players a good look at the game's mysterious main character.
After going on a hiatus in 2016, the Assassin's Creed franchise is set to come back this year. Ubisoft confirmed earlier this month that a new Assassin's Creed game will soon be released, with many fans expecting the title to be featured at the upcoming E3 2017.
Leaked 'Assassin's Creed: Origins' T-Shirt
An image of a t-shirt for Assassin's Creed: Origins was spotted on the NeoGAF forums, and it provides a good look at the protagonist for the upcoming title.
Looking at the t-shirt, it can be assumed that the main character for Assassin's Creed: Origins will be named Ba Yek. He can be seen wielding a bow and a shield, equipped with the franchise's infamous hidden blade gauntlets, and wearing the familiar cowl. The bottom-right part of the t-shirt also shows what appears to be the game's logo, with the franchise's logo seemingly combined with the symbol known as the Eye of Horus.
Additional images of the t-shirt were then forwarded by reliable sources to ComicBook, providing a closer and clearer look at the new logo and Ba Yek. One of the images also shows small text that reads 49BCE, which is probably the year when the events of Assassin's Creed: Origins will unfold.
How do we know the authenticity of the leaked t-shirt? Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag game director and now described as a director for an unannounced project Ashraf Ismail tweeted "Nice t-shirt" after the images were uploaded online. There were even some speculations that it was Ismail himself releasing the leaks to drive up hype for Assassin's Creed: Origins.
'Assassin's Creed: Origins' Features Ancient Egypt
For players who have not been able to follow the news on the next Assassin's Creed game, Assassin's Creed: Origins will take players back to ancient Egypt. It can be assumed that the title will showcase the very first days of the Assassins.
A screenshot for the game was leaked earlier this month, showing a character with a bow, arrows, and a shield hanging over his back while steering a sailboat. We now know that this character's name is Ba Yek, as the image in the t-shirt closely resembles the figure in the leaked screenshot. Ba Yek is "one" when translated from Kurdish to English, which might hint that he is the first Assassin.
One of the quests that was displayed in the screenshot was "follow Shadya to Khenut's Villa." It connected the game to ancient Egypt because Khenut was a queen of that era. The Redditor who uploaded the screenshot said that Assassin's Creed: Origins will feature segments that occur at different times, but everything will happen in ancient Egypt.
The fact that Ba Yek is steering a sailboat also means that naval combat will likely return to the franchise in Assassin's Creed: Origins. The feature was last seen in Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag.
'Assassin's Creed: Origins' At E3 2017?
It is widely expected that Ubisoft will showcase Assassin's Creed: Origins at the upcoming E3 2017, which will run from June 13 to June 15.
While there have been a few leaks about the game, there are still many unknown details such as the plot, new features, and perhaps most importantly, its release date. Fans of the franchise are hoping that Ubisoft will reveal all the information about Assassin's Creed: Origins in a few weeks.
