Ubisoft revealed that it is planning to release four major titles over the next year, namely the next games in the Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, The Crew, and South Park franchises.
No specific dates were stated on when the games will be launched, but they will all be rolled out within Ubisoft's fiscal year 2017, which stretches from April 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018.
Ubisoft's Plans For Fiscal Year 2017
Ubisoft revealed its plans for the current fiscal year though its annual earnings report, which is known to provide information on the titles that the French publisher will soon release.
"In 2017-18 we will see the exciting returns of Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, The Crew and South Park," said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot in a statement, adding that the publisher will then pursue a digital transformation and the consolidation of a new business model for the following fiscal year.
No further details about the four games were revealed in the earnings report.
Four Upcoming Ubisoft Games
While Ubisoft did not reveal any new information about the four major titles that will be released for its fiscal year 2017, previous reports shed light on what the games will be all about.
The next game in the Assassin's Creed franchise, which took a break last year, is rumored to be entitled Assassin's Creed: Origins. As can be assumed from its title, the game will be a prequel to the series. A leaked screenshot of Assassin's Creed: Origins revealed an ancient Egypt setting and hinted that the popular feature of controlling boats last seen in Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag will make a return.
Not much is known about Far Cry 5, which will follow last year's prehistoric Far Cry Primal. Rumors claims that the game will be set in Montana, but that has not yet been confirmed by Ubisoft. The Crew 2, meanwhile, will be a follow-up to the open-world racing title that was released in 2014, but nothing else is known about the game beyond its logo.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole, on the other hand, is already well known, albeit primarily due to the multiple delays that the game has suffered. The sequel to the hilarious South Park: The Stick of Truth of 2014 was first unveiled at E3 2016 and initially announced to be released in December 2016.
News On Other Ubisoft Games
In Ubisoft's earnings call, notably missing from the announcement of upcoming titles, was the Massive Entertainment game based on James Cameron's Avatar of 2009.
According to Ubisoft, the Avatar game will not be released before fiscal year 2021, which means that fans of the movie will have to wait at least until April 1, 2020 for the game title to launch.
Ubisoft is also known to be working on a bizarre crossover RPG between its Rabbids franchise and Nintendo's Super Mario franchise for the Nintendo Switch. Entitled Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, reports claim that it will feature turn-based combat and support local co-op mode for two players. It is expected to be featured at the upcoming E3.
