Fans of the long-running Super Mario Bros. franchise should be looking forward to the upcoming E3 2017, as it is expected that three new Super Mario games will be unveiled at the annual event.
Nintendo recently announced its plans for E3 2017, and the first among the three new Super Mario games will be at the heart of the company's presence at the event.
First Chance To Play 'Super Mario Odyssey' At E3
Nintendo recently revealed that on the first day of E3 on June 13, it will host a Nintendo Spotlight that will showcase upcoming games for the Nintendo Switch.
Nintendo stated that the event will offer attendees the first chance at a playable demo for the upcoming Nintendo Switch title Super Mario Odyssey, the first sandbox-style Super Mario game since Super Mario Sunshine was released in 2002 for the Nintendo GameCube.
In Super Mario Odyssey, players will be able to explore different 3D worlds as Mario exits the Mushroom Kingdom and finds himself in new places. Mario will be sailing across worlds on an airship and will gain new abilities such as being able to throw his iconic cap.
Not much else is known about Super Mario Odyssey though, aside from the fact that it will be released in this year's holiday season to give a boost to Nintendo Switch sales during the period.
With Super Mario Odyssey expected to be a big part of Nintendo's plans for E3 2017, gamers should expect to learn more about the upcoming title over the course of the event.
Bizarre 'Super Mario' And 'Rabbids' Crossover
The second Super Mario game expected to be unveiled at E3 2017 is a bizarre crossover RPG with Ubisoft's Rabbids franchise.
Confirmed earlier in May to also have a bizarre title of Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, the game is being developed on the same Snowdrop engine that Ubisoft used for South Park: The Fractured But Whole and Tom Clancy's The Division.
The RPG will feature turn-based combat and will offer a two-player local co-op mode, with eight playable characters. The first four characters are Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and Peach, and the remaining four characters are Rabbids wearing costumes of the first four characters.
'Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga' Port On Its Way?
The third Super Mario title that may be announced at E3 2017 is a port of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, which was first released for the Game Boy Advance in 2003.
Earlier this month, a dataminer spotted a new Super Mario game at the Nintendo 3DS eShop titled Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga DX. The title of the new Nintendo 3DS game, which already had an icon on the eShop, hints that it will not be a simple port though. The game could be a remastered version of the original game, a sequel, or even a complete remake.
No further details are known regarding Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga DX, but the presence of its icon in the Nintendo 3DS eShop makes it highly likely that Nintendo will soon release the game, with a possible official announcement at E3 2017.
Nintendo At E3 2017
E3 2017 is just a month away, and fans could not wait for what Nintendo has planned for the annual event.
In addition to the Super Mario games, other titles expected to be present at E3 2017 are Pokémon Stars and a Super Smash Bros. game for the Nintendo Switch.
